Professional and Casual Gamblers are IRS designations with one difference being professionals must record every gambling transaction and use Schedule C . Currently the standard deduction for single filers is over $10,000 so it doesn't make any sense losing that unless your losses are much more. Just the fact we can deduct gambling losses from gambling winnings shows what gambling income is.

A professional gambler or (professional lottery player) would be in the business of playing lotteries for a living and would keep records of losses/gains and pay taxes same as any other business much like the the Michigan couple that traveled to Massachuttes to play its WinFall games before it was disbanded.

Back in 2013 when I matched 5of6 in Ohio's Classic Lotto for $1500 I did end up paying $250 more taxes even though I spent over $3000 on lottery tickets that year because I could only deduct gambling losses up to the amount I won which when added to all my other deductions was less than the standard deduction.

I would have had to be a professional gambler to deduct more.

For digits games P3,P4 and P5, the 'payout structure' and binomial theorem will be my top list. Profitability is subjective, people wage differently. Prediction is not forecasting, some folks are in denial with the premise of lottery games and will fight hard to defend their position, this does not augur well for open discussion.

It's almost an unwritten rule when somebody mentions drawings, somebody else wants to argue why pre-drawing test negatively effects random outcomes. It's the same when somebody mentions the IRS, anonymity, validating multi-million jackpot tickets, etc. If their comments don't start by based on my experience , I'm not interested.

I think I did say that I chose Virginia due to the pair play option allowing more opportunities to match something...it would be the pair option. Does it cost more to opt in the pair play? I was just factoring in the cost to play according to the model he proposed and the corresponding payouts but, I guess I took the pairs for granted. When you select your bet you clearly have to mark which type of bet you are making.

For Virginia Pick 3 you have the following play options:

Exact, Any, 50/50, Combo, Front, Back, Split.

Unless you explicitly bet Front, Back, or Split you don't win money on matching a pair when you are making a 50/50 bet.

If one doesn't win within a time period, they have to double up to regain their losses when they do eventually win in the second phase. But If there is a very long streak of losses, the cost to recoup ALL of the former wages can grow exponentially. Predicting 50 straight/box pick-3 lines for a month in just one state could mean up to 300 predictions with 62 chances to match the drawing. By matching 250 of those combos boxed results in a loss, but that's how pick-3 predictions work. It's probably better to check how many $290 and $330 a predictor gets to get a more accurate reading.

Yes, I absolutely did conduct a thorough back test. I used the state of Virginia's last (6) draws beginning on 6/09 and ending on 6/11 both midday and evening draws. My study is a few posts back and, while a little lengthy, it is very accurate and easy to understand. Did you run a backtest yet? Take any random set of 20 numbers and check them against some state's past results for a month or 2. It's soon obvious where the weakness in progressive betting lies. 2nd draw 25 at $1 = $25

3rd draw 25 at $2 each = $50

Most of my past predictions were for one state and for the very next draw.

I did one or maybe two times or so made predictions for more than one state using the same predicted numbers, I no longer remember for sure, but I think that such predictions were good, that is that they made a profit over the states and time period set.

What MikeK calls Clean Numbers are what comes out that most or at least they should:

The word 'random' means just that... it occurs randomly.

The only definition of random that matters is how each state lottery defines it. Some are live ball drawings and others are RNG and most lotteries claim whatever way they conduct their drawings is to give every player an equal chance. How are pre-test and post-tests preventing that?

It seems like you're looking for spot plays that are based on something that happened before and will happen in the future though they are usually only somewhat consistent. BobP's Power Trails are an example.

Generally lottery is not about numbers, there could be pictures on those balls. It is more about mechanics of the rotational movement, the way balls get magnetised due to different shapes and amount of paint on them depicting numbers. The soup of magnetic waves, perhaps controlled by it's direct surrounding ( the place the game takes place) and the weather, especially strong magnetic fields during thunderstorm, lightning and other natural conditions. I agree, the one you're using is a modified version of the contemporary one most people use, which is making a little profit over the insured period.

It's simple to modify it by tripling or quadrupling the bets after each loss, and yes, it does take a very large bankroll in case there's a long dry period, but most people don't have that much expendable income, or if they do, they still won't use that money because of the inherent risk of gambling. You taylor make your progressive betting technique to suit your own personal requirements.

It would not be exactly the same for everybody.

I progressive bet to set myself up for a combo play killing..I rarely miss in TN..

I angle my wagering to keep it as tax free as possible..I still get 1099g's to file.but my $600 or less wins more than make up for the taxes paid.

It all depends on your particular progressive betting technique.

The normal regular progressive betting technique that I showed you all here, not only will make sure that you don't lose any money at all, but that the longer that it takes for you to win the more of a profit that you will make, if it takes you 10 draws to win, you then will make a very huge profit.

I was taught from a long time ago that the progressive wagering purpose is NOT necessarily to make a huge profit when you win, but rather an insurance program which guarantees a profit.

Basically you're wagering more money with every loss to cover the total cost of the previous wagers in order to make a profit, no matter how small.

If it had taken 6 draws to win, it would be $16 played for each of the 20 box pick 3 numbers played so:

$80 X 16 $1280 won on 6 draws played minus $470 dollars played on the 6 draws played:

Equals perhaps $810 profit made on 6 draws played.

Not bad at all for winning just 1 time on 6 draws played.

Is there anybody now who doesn't yet understand how progressive betting works?

I am tired it is possible that on this particular post a mistake was made or maybe not.

Start with $10 (50 cents per each number) and if you don't win:

Now play $20 and if you don't win: $1 per each pick 3 number.

Now play $40 and f you don't win: $2 for each pick 3 number.

Now play $80 and if you don't win: $4 for each pick 3 number.

Now play $160 and if you won this time: $8 for each pick 3 number played.

Every-time that you don't win you double your previous bet as simple as that:

For example:

20 Box pick 3 numbers.

Gotta respectfully disagree here, though. If a player is progressive betting, then the losses that are mounting at say .50 would double at $1.00 until/unless a win takes place. This is supported by the law of diminishing returns, okay. If a player has been losing $15 (.50/number and a (30) number list) on each play and has played (5) times, that's $75 in the hole. If a player can't hit within a specific amount of time and also for a specific PAYOUT AMOUNT, then it means they'd need to make an even larger hit just to cover the first run of losses. Like I wrote earlier, what if they perform 7 pre test that show the first digit came out number 5 the last 3 of the 7 tests?
