Additional information to my previous post about claiming a prize:

The winner must also show proof of social security number (i.e. card).

Proof of address: that would be a copy of a recent bill such as credit card, electricity, cell phone, car insurance bill, etc.

The last time I won $1,000 from a scratch ticket, I went to the local lottery branch office in Woburn, MA and got a check for $910 dollars (there was withholding for state and federal taxes). Upon turning in my signed winning ticket and showing 2 forms of photo ID and proof of address, I got my check right away and deposited in the bank that same day.

The W-2 form comes with the check.

Not sure about Mass. but in SC you get a check and if you dont have a bank account or dont want to wait for the bank to clear your check, there is an arraignment with a local bank that you can go there, they verify your winnings with the lotto office on the spot and cash the check for you. I would imagine Mass. would have some similar procedure since you are not required to have a bank account to play the lottery.

I play Megabucks Doubler by subscription, which is available across the United States by phone.

I haven't won any big prizes yet, but I have won several small prizes.

They sent checks for each prize, it would be more convenient for players and more efficient for the lottery, if small prizes were credited to subscription account.

Hi, I live in Massachusetts. If you won prizes over $600 and under $50,000 and went directly to the lottery office to claim it, can you collect your winnings on the same day (doesn't matter whether cash or check)? If you get it as a check, how soon would you be able to cash it at a bank?

Again, I live in Massachusetts.
