Lol, some cashiers are just that: SALES PEOPLE.

The pushy Indians/middle easterners at gas stations tend to ruin my vibe, even though sometimes I have won at those. Whenever someone pushes me to buy a ticket or buy more, I ended up not wanting to play because I'm trying to fight the urge, but theyre trying to push me into buying. Then, it makes me feel I may lose and they just want to have more money in their register.

The one time I won $500 I tipped the clerk that sold me the ticket - I had marked incorrectly and she fixed it and I won $500 on Cash3 - I gave her a $20 tip

Tipping is appropriate if the individual spends a great deal of time scratching the tickets at the store. I've seen customers buy one ticket at a time, scratch it, lose and go back and forth several times until they get a winner, cash it in and then leave without tipping the clerk, who is most likely flustered because of the constant interruptions and having to deal with other customers.

Even if it's not a big win I'd say give the clerk something..

My largest win from a single ticket was $10, the largest from a drawing was $12( 3 powerball tickets) so I haven't won anything worth a tip.

If I win between 50,000 and a million I'll probably tip my favorite lottery place 1 thousand as it's a family run store with a few non-family employees. If I won a big jackpot, I would never return to my hometown so no tip I guess given I wouldn't even get close to it.

If the salesperson is doing rounds and taking orders for drinks...yes. Otherwise, it's not the casino. Unless it's that kinda gas station.

Looking at the particulars here this seems generous. People have different views on tipping so not sure if one is better than the other. If I win big I would tip besides I could then afford it. The check is in the mail.

I don't tip since even with any big wins, in the end I lose lots more money then I win :(

Only scenario where I could see myself maybe tipping is if somehow the clerk suggested I buy a certain ticket and, and I got a big win from that ticket.

For example I remember one time I was at the store and the clerk mentioned he hasn't seen any wins from a book of a certain $10 scratcher yet, so I bought one ticket from that book and I did indeed win $50. Didnt tip since its not a big amount but let... [ More ]

Other than the guy at the gas station I spoke of, I haven't ran into any clerk who is nice like that. Most I've come to in contact with act like it's a big inconvenience to be bothered about tickets. I'm even the kind of guy who willingly steps aside and lets the clerk handle other non-lottery customers if I have many small prize tickets to cash in as to not hold up the line. Now that's a good example of a clerk who goes above, and beyond and it would be a nice gesture to give him a tip.

The clerk who does nothing for you doesn't deserve a tip, perhaps if you win big and they are nice...maybe a small one. I agree with everyone above it is extremely annoying when they expect tips, or even hint toward receiving a tip. I don't tip...PERIOD.

The clerk didn't lead me to buying my winning tickets; it was extreme luck and coincidence. Not to sound harsh but the clerk is no more inclined to part of my big wins than I am to part of their tills they made on sales at their store on a particular day.

Besides in South Carolina, places that sell winning tickets over $500 get a 10% commission from the SCEL. Sounds more than generous to me. The store and/or the clerk shouldn't require a tip from the person who actual... [ More ]

nah. I use the same policies i use when i win at casinos. I don't tip. Do they feel bad for me and give me any of my money back when i lose lots of money. Did they pitch in on my ticket. They don't deserve a dime of anything i win then.

Don't tip at all. It leads to people having expectations of it and then I hear things like, That guy won two-hundred dollars and didn't even tip me. (Yes, I've heard that from clerks before as someone else was walking out with some cash they won.)

Unless it's from the one or two places I frequent where I've made friends with a couple of the clerks, I wouldn't tip a random someone if I won millions let alone any lesser amount. If the clerk/owner has done something out of the ordinary to accomm... [ More ]

I would never tip on anything under $500. If you spent alot of money chasing tickets to win that $500, then I probably wouldn't tip then either. If you bought 2 tickets, and potentially the clerk suggested/recommended a certain roll and you hit a nice win, then I'd give them maybe $20 at this amount. I'd be more likely to tip on a $500 win on a $5 ticket than a $20 ticket because it would be more likely that I'd be breaking even or behind if it were a $500 win on a $20... [ More ]

i was thinking of tipping the clerk on my last $1000, I thought 10% would be fair. It can be annoying when clerks ask for tip on a 100$ win because usually I'm just breaking even. But the clerk that sold me the winner is very polite and has never asked for a tip.
