Jack Whittaker is a role model for what winners shouldn't do.

I think what brought him down was his attitude that he had all that money and could do whatever he wanted. I think that's what brings down most lottery winners.

A couple who were good friends of my dad won the Powerball years ago, when it had been in existence for less than a decade. Compared to today, the jackpot wasn't very high. They played religiously, spending at least a couple hundred dollars per month on tickets, which were only a buck each then.

I know one guy who won 3 million on scratch ticket. Walked away with 1.8 million, and another guy who won 100,000 on a scratch ticket. 69,000 after taxes. Burned through that like it was water.

Do you know about Andrew Jackson, Jack, Whitaker? He was a millionaire before hitting the jackpot. He did not know how to say NO. His daughter and granddaughter both died of possible drug overdoses. A young teenage boy died of a drug overdose in one of Jack's homes.

I've heard many people say the easier the money comes to you the easier it will leave you . That many lottery winners think that because they hit a jackpot once, that it will happen again. It makes sense that if you don't have to work hard for something, subconsciously a person may not respect it. I've heard of people who were good with money that they've made but hit the lottery and then end up not being so good with their money...

A man that played golf at the golf course i work at by the name of Carl Coffman hit it big back around 1990 when powerball was called lotto america i think it was. His wife bought a $2 ticket at a Krogers here. This was back when your winnings were paid over a 20 year period. Her win was 17250000.

Some blue moons back there was this old gentleman a veteran who loved numbers was a regular parlor Keno player at the Boulder Station Casino, Las Vegas he unceremoniously bets chocolate chips (5K) on one number #12 wins and bet again winning a total payout of $30,000. I can't give his name but if anyone wants to verify call the keno parlor @ Boulder Casino inquire with keno manager, supervisor etc. They nothing about how he mysteriously made the selection but he generously took care of staff.... i know of 3 people who have won, one from a online chat who had a hard time keeping it, a friend of my GF's daughter who had a hard time keeping it, and a pal of my brother whos family won back in the 70's who blew it all. maybe i know more winners, but they dont talk about it. but i can see a theme running it, its hard to keep it

One of my friends won $30,000.00 on 5555 on May 27th, 2016

One of my relatives, 1 of the 8 Postal workers that hit a cool Million on the Power ball, earlier this year.

I think they each cleared, $125,000.00 before taxes.

1 guy I worked with at Chrysler, won Missouri lotto for, $3.1 million.

A lady I know, won $1 million on a $20 scratcher.

Another lady I know, won Show me Cash, $130,000.00

Yeah! me we had 5 numbers on the florida lotto 2 yrs ago won $33,000. after taxes we wound up with $24,000.Ther were only 5 winner for 5 number and it was a 5x timer .

Yes, they won 20 million or so and blew it all on drugs and ladies of the evening. The person frequented the convenience store I worked at part time. At the time they won they bought their tickets in SC as NC did not have a lottery. I do remember them telling me the day they found out they had a winning ticket they gave their wife divorce papers. About 2 years later I saw them holding up a sign Will Work for Food .

$5.6 million back in 1982 was probably worth $20 million in today's value. A sensible person could have made it last even in NYC but frivolous spending can wipe that amount even if it was a 20-year annuity.

In terms of knowing anyone that has won a major jackpot like MM or PB the answer is no. I do know someone who won a lottery jackpot but the payout was under $100k, she is still working and a portion of the proceeds went towards paying off all her debt and putting a down payment on a t... [ More ]

One of my classmates won a Jackpot which was split in 3; still, *lots* of 'bucks' considering it was one of the biggest Jackpots of the 90s.

Someone who lives in Canada now and invested a part of his winnings in real estate. Smart enough and really humble. He generally keeps a low profile. We talk a few times and he is very happy. He always talks about his family - especially his daughter. A person that I admire and highly respect.

I have a family member who won $17,000 playing The NY Lottery's 5/39 online game, Take5. The total jackpot was $68,000, but there were three other winners, so my nephew's share was $17,000. He netted $12,000 after taxes.

Yes I know a couple of people that won big. Both divorced within 6 months of winning. Another one I know won a couple million on a scratch off ticket here in TN and 2 yrs later...broke and bagging groceries at Kroger.

Yes, I do know someone who actually won the full jackpot (only winner) in the state lottery for Pennsylvania, back in the 80's... his family lived next door to mine.

He married his girlfriend, bought property in New Jersey and started a business in real estate....saw him earlier this year and he is heavy into community activism.

Lots of people live in NYC with very modest incomes, but even people who are doing better live in apartments that are about the size of my garage.

If your income doesn't depend on living in NYC I'd think that moving would be a good idea, unless you've got a pretty substantial income. Years ago my wife's family owned a restaurant in Green Bay. One day a regular came in and said he won Supercash, 350K jackpot. As it turns out, its true, he bought the ticket at Woodmans grocery store. Never saw him again after that. Probably paid his bills and moved somewhere warmer.

Many years ago, my Dad owned a business in NJ. On the way home to Brooklyn, we stopped in Staten Island to buy Lotto tickets for that night's drawing.

On the way out of the store, with tickets in hand, I saw a man that looked like Curtis Sharp on the way in.

I asked if he was Curtis harp. He said yes, he was. I shook his hand. Said hello. And we wished each other good luck
