If drawings are truly random, all the pre/post tests make no difference. Seems counter-intuitive, but that's randomness. And there's a spookiness to random numbers. For example, lotteries draw numbers in many different ways and differing times of day, and yet there are many instances in which a particular number or related variant (ie. boxed) will be drawn in multiple lotteries within a short period of time. As for your suggestion of just leaving the balls be, that would make tampering easier and more difficult to trace back to a particular suspect(s). If it turned out the balls and/or machine were fixed in some way, but was missed due to lack of testing, that could hurt players too.

Don't fall for that BS. Yes it happened in PA a while back, but there are alternative ways to protect the machines. I've laid them out plenty of times here on LP.

Thanks for all the hard work you've done, it's appreciated. However, I disagree on the part you wrote about Florida being a truly random game. A truly random game would mean that after the drawing takes place, they should put the balls back into the tubes and leave the freaking things alone, lock them up in a vault with cameras, till the next drawing. Whatever the machine spits out the next draw is a TRULY RANDOM DRAWING..lol

At this point I stopped caring. After all those pre and post tests, I don't care what order they pop out of, they already ruined the natural outcome with the pre and post tests, and juggling around the machines and the tubes.

It's futile to care because there's nothing we can do about it. All I can do is find patterns that seem to be working temporarily and bet differently when the patterns start changing.

From looking at the YouTube Aug-18th video, I'm left wondering what the big issue is. Sure, the balls pop-up out of order, but is the ordering itself being altered?

Does the 2 ball machine really draw 1-1 and does the 3 ball machine really draw 2-5-3 ? Yes or no?

If each machine is drawing the corresponding numbers, don't see an issue. The balls pop-up randomly in PA Lottery drawings too.

I earlier said that as soon as I found out what accounts for the random draw order of the positions in the new Pick games I would post it here.

My August 19th email on this issue went unanswered, so I called the lottery office today.

Per Rachel Wheeler in the Florida Lottery draw manager's office, a computer does control the opening of the draw ports, but all the ports open at the same time.

No, the balls cannot go to a different physical position from which they are mixed and then drawn.

When I say machine I am referring to the entire cabinet that draws the numbers for each game.

Within each machine (cabinet) there is a separate 10 ball draw chamber for each position. Plexiglas tubes send the winning ball from chamber 1 ONLY to position 1. Likewise for position 2 and the rest of the positions.

According to the Florida Lottery website's Integrity page, the balls are inspected and weighed before and after each draw. The drawings are supervised by an independent auditor. Members of the public can also attend the live drawings in person, so I am confident all the balls are there.

I am less concerned about the balls than I am about the reason for the now random draw order. If it is a computer program that selects the random draw order of the positions, I call foul.

^^^ After I posted, I looked at the entire 14 number string from 8/18 midday and it looks like the last position of midday Pick 5 was 1 and then the evening Pick 2 was 11. I suppose that could indeed account for that 111 people were looking for in Pick 3.

I don't have a number tracking program, but I did record the numbers across all games beginning on August 1st.

With the new format, a single day's worth of drawings yields a 28 number string instead of a 14 number string as before.... [ More ]

Yes, that does sound like a very good idea.

Since the numbers tend to repeat in the new game, it would probably make sense to parallel track all four games on one thread.

Even if all you follow is pick 3, with the new format, it would still seem necessary to at least track Pick 2 along with it since they are drawn at the same time.

All that I have mentioned so far would probably relate more to strategies that follow trends.

Yes, since the Pick games have new machines, new balls and a new draw order method, it makes sense that whatever trends you were following prior to August 1st would abruptly end.

As soon as I find out the official reason for the randomness of the draw order, I will feel more confident about adjusting, replacing or eliminating a straight pick strategy.

You have to look in the background to see the numbers randomly drawn at the same time across both machines. The machines are next to the announcer and the balls are automatically drawn as she is talking. You can see them appear next to her at about shoulder level.

Notice Pick 3 was already drawn in random order before Pick 2 was drawn beginning with the 2nd position. After that, the hostess begins with Pick 2 as she announces the numbers in order of physical position, not actual draw order... [ More ]

The original Florida Cash 3 and Play 4 had options like Front Pair, Back Pair, Mid Pair and 1 0ff along with the usual Straight, Box and Combo.

I think the objective in Florida with the new Pick games is to get people to spend more money with the promise of an easy 2 number game and the temptation of a larger jackpot 5 number game. At the same time, it appears they are trying to make it more difficult to pick straight numbers due to the new draw order randomization.

Tx uses the pick 4 games for the pick 2 games for example:

Daily 4 is the first game to offer Pair Play! You can play the first two, middle two or last two numbers. (12XX, X12X, XX12)

So:

Instead I would like it better if they would use the pick 3 game for that, such as:

I think people need to be aware that the games are no longer drawn separately in time, and no longer in order of position. It is hard to see the draw order and they disingenuously show the game results up close on the screen in order of P2,P3,P4,P5.

I had to pause the video to get the draw order for P4/P5.

Since the balls are drawn in random order across both games at the same time, the actual draw order for tonight's result was 53211. The result was posted as P2=11 and P3=253

I noticed on the FL Lottery promo video announcement that they accurately state that Pick 3 and Pick 4 play the same way as Cash 3 and Cash 4, but it failed to mention that the numbers are NOT DRAWN THE SAME WAY AS BEFORE.
