Most of the lottery funds go toward pet projects and lining the pockets of the states politicians. They claim lottery money is used for education but I don't believe any of it. They need to do an independent external audit for each and every state to get to the bottom of this corruption.

Idaho says they use it for schools, but I just saw on the news this morning that they need something like a quarter of a billion to upgrade facilities. They're going to try to get a bond voted in, which is exactly what they did before the lottery. So where is all the lottery money going

Doesn't actually do any good at all? .. State your Source. I think you a Lil confused, the lottery that was voted on back in 84 or was it earlier was to supplement education. The lottery in of itself cannot shoulder the entire education budget. In case you have forgotten we are the most populous State there are lots of kids too few schools.

Not sure about my present state of residence (Virginia), but my home state of Georgia uses the lion's share of the lottery money to fund the Hope Scholarship, which pays all state college and trade school tuition, room, and board of any Georgia resident who graduates from high school with a B average, and maintains a B average while in college to continue receiving the benefit. It is interesting what lottery funding is used for, other than Education.

Kansas does not use Lottery Money towards Education.

How are Kansas Lottery Proceeds Distributed?

How are the proceeds from the Colorado Lottery distributed?

Colorado Lottery proceeds are distributed according to the will of the voters through a 1992 amendment to the state constitution. That amendment provided a formula to phase out Lottery funding of the State Capital Construction Fund and to introduce a new proceeds recipient, the Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund (GOCO).

Taxes are raised. Giving money to institutions is just a cost in the balance I think. What does that state do with tax money?

Money from tickets is mainly used to finance the whole lottery system. The main idea is to make money, so the stated takes taxes.

Oregon likes to do projects with it's money like state parks water sheds education grants to start up businesses. They go into detail if you want to look at it on the oregon lottery website. Me I do not care I just want their money from megabucks tonight.-weshar75

Here in Arizona they say it funds education but upon looking deeper into it,proof shows it's placed in the General Fund were the state elected officials figure out how much of it goes to education then else where for state needs. So very little goes to education. Hell the State borrowed money from the Lottery which is funded by the state. Go figure that out

Just curious if anyone knows what your state actually uses lottery money for ???

Do most states use their lottery money to fund Education, or something else ???

Both North South Carolina use state lottery money to fund education in the state.

Alabama does not have a lottery. The Governor wants to start a state lottery and use the money to fund Medicaid in the state.

What does Georgia, New York, California, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Illinois, etc.... use their lottery money for
