I was surprised that Florida decided upon a max of 750,000 tickets to be sold. That's kind of high. In Pennsylvania, they have had many raffles, but I don't ever recall seeing more than a 500,000 ticket maximum.

State lotteries have to be careful with these things... Last year, with high profile publicity , PA announced they were going to hold four raffles per year, up from two. What a flop! Tickets didn't sell out for a couple of them, and they quietly cancelled the Fall 2016 raffle. My gues... [ More ]

I agree.

I wouldn't be opposed to them even getting rid of a $1M prize, implementing some $100k prizes, breaking down those $50k prizes and turning them into $10k prizes in order to dish out some $100 winners. I do agree it is possible to have more winners without ruining the distribution and the fact that the raffle is designed to be a revenue generator. I think something needs to be done if they want to continue it to get people interested. Maybe instead so many $500 make more lower prizes, Have some $100 dollars winners , too many people I see walking away empty handed and they aren't happy.

If there were something like 534 winners out of 570,000 tickets then the odds of having a winner in the final draw was more than 1,000 to 1 ! That was crazy odds.

Looks like sales didn't hit the 600,000 mark; the highest winning number was 567595. I don't know if they'll have a raffle again next year, or not. The best I can figure, if there had been a sellout, and after prize payouts and business expenses, Florida Lottery was looking at around a $6,000,000 profit. With the number of tickets sold, they're getting about half that - $3,000,000. If they do have another raffle, I'd probably play again, maybe only get 5 tickets inste... [ More ]

I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall players who had bought many tickets posting in past PA Millionaire threads that the reason they wouldn't buy a lot of tickets again is because even though they had convinced themselves that they had a real good shot at winning a big prize, in the final analysis, they really didn't.

Did you buy them all from the same store? 5 of my tickets were bought somewhere in orlando by a friend who was visiting. and the other 3 I had my grandma purchase from a Publix in Sebastian that I think is lucky because I won $500 on a scratcher there this summer when visiting.

I too have wondered how many players bought tickets versus how many tickets were sold.

I started buying early December and pretty much bought one a day. It wouldn't surprise me there is a core number who did the same, maybe 15,000-20,000 who have 1/2 the numbers ? Reason I say this is I notice a number 10,000 tickets were bought many of the days, was pretty consistent too. Makes me think maybe the same people buying regularly ?

I think about 570,000 will be the total. Come tomorrow 7 people will be lucky millionaire winners.

There was a jump in rate around Christmas time and huge jump New Years Eve. I did notice the sales were around 10,000/day most days of the month. Makes me wonder how many multiple ticket players there were and how many nearly every day buyers there were too ?

It's still huge odds but I would think just guessing most of the tickets are in the hands of maybe 100,000 people or less

Just bought my last two tickets around 8:00 AM, tickets are in the 555,400 range. In total I have eight tickets for the grand prize drawing.

That leaves fifteen or sixteen hours 'til sales are cut off (IIRC, a clerk once told me that terminal game sales are cut off at 11:00 PM every night, but I could be mistaken.) So with 194,600 tickets left to sell, they can sell out in fifteen hours if sales average almost 13,000 per hour.

Yeah, PA is at 66,000 to go at 4:30 AM, and was at 86,000 at 9 AM yesterday morning, so they've sold at least 20,000 in one day. This happens every time PA has a raffle. I guess it's the 20 dollar price tag that causes it. My thinking is that people hold off until the bitter end simply because they don't want to part with 20 bucks for a lottery ticket until they absolutely have to. G5

Thanks to the reporting from the field, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, a span of nine hours, around 16,000 tickets were sold. That's about 1,800 per hour. I can't tell if the fact that it's New Year's Eve makes it more likely for people to be out and about and buying Raffle tickets, or if the same fact makes it likely that people are seriously partying and not even thinking about buying Raffle tix.

I'm predicting sales will just squeak by the 600,0000 mark, I say 615,000.

A rate of 30,000 per day is absolutely incredible. I've been watching the ticket countdown counter on PA's website, and tickets for their millionaire raffle have been steady, and have hit a high of 13,000 per day.

The PA drawing is one week from today, so maybe they'll really spike up this weekend, but as of 9 AM this morning PA still had 86,000 tickets left. At 13,000 per day, that translates into a sellout next Friday.

So it looks like sales hit around 30,000 per day yesterday. That leaves around 220,000 tickets left to sell in three days, an average of over 70,000 per day for a sell-out. Sales volume is increasing, but I still don't think it will sell out.

All of the prize payouts for this game were funded at sales of 433,750. Even with adding on some for the Lottery's cost of doing business, I'd say they're in the black with the Raffle at this point.

The Pennsylvania Lottery has put a ticket counter out on it's website. !03,000 tickets remain as of 6 AM today. It looks like they've been selling at a rate of 13,000 per day, At that rate, they'll sell all 500,000 just before the drawing on January 7th.

Florida has sold over 500,000 as of yesterday, but I cant see how they'll sell another 250,000 by the drawing. G5

I don't trust any technology when it comes to Randomizing things. I once came home listening to my ipod in my car which was on shuffle and proceeded to listen to itunes on my pc while cleaning and it played the exact same songs in order my ipod had in my car. Mind you this was just itunes while my ipod was in the car, so shuffle/randomness doesn't exist in my mind. If I'm going to win/lose I would rather watch the drawing happen live and see with my own eyes instead of taking their word for what... [ More ]

A computer-generated randomizer will be used to conduct the drawing. Six-thousand (6,000) unique eight-digit numbers will be drawn from the range of numbers representing the chances sold.

I agree. If I were to buy in volume like that I would spread it out evenly to at best no more than one ticket per day to get a wide variable of numbers instead getting numbers back to back. Buying one every day for a month I would think would have a better chance of hitting a prize and also seeing how the tickets are selling day to day. I bought one at the start of the 2nd raffle and may by one on New Year's DAy after having some lucky peas

I was talking to a fellow lottery player the other day about The Pennsylvania Millionaire raffle and I mentioned the spike in ticket sales towards the very end of the sales cycle. My friend said he was aware of it, and he offered an explanation for it that I hadn't even considered.

I doubt the pace of ticket sales will slow down. If anything, sales will probably pick up. The surge in sales usually starts a day or two before Christmas and runs right up until the day before the drawing. The rate per day sky-rockets, and I'm willing to bet the rate you're seeing now will come close to being doubled.

If it ends with only 600k tickets sold, the odds will be roughly 1 in 86k at winning the $1M prize or the second place $50k prize. Not bad, certain worth throwing down $20 in my opinion.

With 16 days remaining (counting today), ticket sales would need to average 14,000 per day just to hit the 600k mark. That estimate is looking good, unless there's a last minute surge within sales.

On 12/8 around noon-ish I bought a ticket in the 272,000 range. Today around noon-ish I bought a ticket in the 349,000 range. So over the last eight days, around 77,000 tickets were sold, about 9,600 tix per day.

That leaves around 400,000 tickets to be sold in the next 17.5 days to effect a sell-out. Sales will have to average just shy of 23,000 per day for that to happen.

Update to the above post.... Pennsylvania is now selling tickets at a rate per day of 6,700. They held their fifth Early Bird drawing this week, 41,977 tickets sold during the week of 12/06 to 12/13/16. G5

8,000 per day in ticket sales isn't all that bad. Pennsylvania has been selling their raffle tickets at a rate of about 5,900 per day. (In the past, prior to introducing The Early Bird drawings, they sold only about 2,000 per day.) PA will probably sell out, but then they're selling a max of 500,000 tickets.

Don't forget, there's always a huge rush to buy tickets just prior to the drawing. Ticket sales in PA skyrocketed to 20,000 per day about four or five days before the drawing, and I belie... [ More ]

Technically, the raffle is still generating profit for the lottery even if it only is 80% sold out. While the profit margin may not be as large as anticipated, it is still large enough to justify having it. I can see them not wanting to do future raffles if the sales fall substantially under their target.

I also haven't won any prize in any of the 3 first drawings, and I'm done buying raffle tickets at this point. I'm wishing everyone the best, it would be neat if someone from this community... [ More ]

The raffle tickets went on sale back on October 31st so it's been 44 days now. They are averaging less than 8,000 in sales per day.

Right, it is better for players....for the current drawing only. Raffles not selling out does carry it's consequences.

In 2015, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced they were increasing the number of millionaire raffles from two per year to four. (They were formerly held on January 1st and July 4th, and then they announced they were adding two additional drawings - one in The Spring and one in The Fall.)

It's better for us if they don't sell out. Although, they may not offer it again next year if they fall significantly short of a sell-out. I think they curbed the prizes this year in anticipation that they may only sell 80% of the tickets.

press ctrl+f on your keyboard on the results page and just type in your ticket number. If it shows up it will highlight the ticket number on the page. I didn't win on the drawing this week and doubt I will be playing but the one ticket I bought. Good luck to the rest on the new year.
