Max, If I remember correctly, this happened on January 13, 2016. The date of the record jackpot. The wife of the officer asked him to pick up some Powerball tickets for the $1.6 Billion jackpot. I believe he purchased a Mega Millions ticket along with the Power Ball tickets. They won the Mega Millions jackpot and not Power Ball.

The Press assisted the lucky couple and kept their identities secret until he could resign.

Notify the Marshall's service to make arrangements to relocate. If an attorney can't do a Power of Attorney to collect the winning in a trust, then we make more arrangements.....

Just to discuss a topic like this, we must first pretend the odds of over a quarter billion to 1 against winning a MM or PB jackpot don't exist. But when one thinks about it, it makes sense because the same people wanting anonymity want to watch TV shows like the lottery change our lives . I think I read somewhere that being in witness protection is often built in to the lottery as one of the only ways people in non-anonyymous states can keep their identity private.

Another interview with the NY (I believe) lottery comission talked about an officer who was working undercover, which was why they kept his identitty secret for a time. Can't remember where I read this though.

I'm pretty sure that if the federal government asks for a court order preventing the lottery from releasing any information they'll get their court order, but I suspect that the people in charge of keeping the winner's real identity and whereabouts secret wouldn't be very happy.

Maybe that part of the program rules is that they are unable to play the lottery.....I guess if you're in fear for your life, it's not a bad trade-off, unless you stick to pick 3...LOL

One time on TruTv's World's Dumbest a pizzeria owner in Florida got into a scrape with local law enforcement.

Turned out he was in Witness Protection and the name of the pizzeria was Goomba's Pizza. One of the commentator's on World's Dumbest said, Witness Protection. Goomba's Pizza. Seriously

l would think that those in witness protection are being rewarded handsomely enough by the govt CT that there is really no need for them to play the lottery.If they did win l would imagine that they would have to alert the govt of their windfall since it could expose their whereabouts to those seeking revenge etc etc.Now if they resided in a State where a lottery winner could claim anonymously- no problem.
