My eerie experience: I enter scratchers into the second chance game every week. I also keep a few on the side just so I have at least one entry per week. I entered one today and they said the game expired and they would no longer accept it. Did not know that the second chance entry had to be of an active game. Not sure why they have that rule. Now I need to go thru the ones I still have and make sure there are no other expired ones.

I seen an old man up at Winn-Dixie alot of times he just scratches the bar code and checks them under the scanner,

if it says loser he just chunks them away,I asked the clerk why he does that and she said he doesn't want his wife

to know he is buying tickets, but like you said the scanner could mess up and he could be throwing away alot of winners.

that's 100% accurate. you can keep non winning tickets to offset any money you would owe in taxes. There is a section

on a w2g sheet for you to enter the amount of gambling losses you have incurred for the year. just be prepared to

show proof you spent what you claim in case of an audit.

Don't trust the ticket scanners.

Only use the scanners for a quick check- if you're in a rush, but take your ticket home double check it when you have the time.

I've also heard that it's a good idea to keep your losing tickets for the calendar year just in case you do it big. I heard that you could possibly use all of the losing tickets as a tax loss against the big win. This may just be a rumor. (I'm not a tax accountant, so don't take my word for it.

I might not have caught it if I was just scanning bar codes, and didn't have some foreknowledge about the ticket and it's contents.

I've known these ticket-checkers to repeat the previous bar code's results (when scanning a high volume of tickets). Errors are rare and I guess technology can be fallible. Eery, though. I hope this didn't cause me to throw something big away. Or anything, really.

Can you really trust the scanner? The Lottery benefits when you scan a Winner that comes back as Not a Winner. If you take their word for it, you throw it away, and they keep the Payout.

I went to my neighborhood gas station retailer and there was an abandoned $30 Gold left on the counter at the lottery station, next to the checker. The bar code was scratched off and I went ahead and scanned it to make sure... After a prolonged attempt to scan it, it finally beeped and said 'Non-winner'. I went about my scratching business, returning to the register at least once and executing a $5 scratcher back at the station. I was sure it was a $25.00 winner but when I checked, it actually s... [ More ]
