I'm more stunned at the volume of ticket sales in PR. For that same 2/11/17 drawing, here were the Florida results. Florida has 20M residents and PR has 3.5M residents. The volume of play in PR is extraordinary given the small population.

Full-time residents of Puerto Rico don't pay US federal income tax. The Spanish-language press in Puerto Rico says that Powerball winners have to pay 20% contribucion or tax to the Departamento de Hacienda (Puerto Rico's Treasury Dept.).

Lottery gets what they get on the percentage whichever that is. then depending on state they take what they take and then everyone has a different tax bracket.

If more people were smart enough then they would look at the principal and interest too.

Correction: Puerto Ricans do pay tax on lottery winnings, just not federal. Each of the four $2 million prizes will be taxed 20%.

Each ticket will pay $1.6 million after taxes.

Yeah. A few years ago a man in Arizona won six $1 million prizes. For some reason he chose to make three separate trips to the lottery office to claim his prizes. On YouTube there is a Virginia lottery video Chesterfield Man Wins $3 Million in Mega Millions Drawing! The man bought five tickets and won $3,001,000 playing birth dates.

Full-time Puerto Rico residents do not pay any tax on Powerball winnings because it is considered income earned outside of/off the island. Winners in Puerto Rico
