If you are going to truly expatriate yourself you need to get yourself citizenship someplace else before you give up your American citizenship. It can be done right easily since you will definitly have the money to do it. Several Caribbean Island countries offer citizenship for investment schemes that are pretty appealing. Also one in Malta that since it is an EU country gives you the right to live in anywhere in the EU plus Switzerland. I think it costs about a couple of million or so after all... [ More ]

An average flight time between the East coast of Australia and the West coast of the U.S.

is 14hrs.Direct flights about 3-5 hrs less. So if one needs to regularly visit relatives,it's not as far reached as you think.

I agree. For years I put 90% into stocks/fund comprised of S P 500 stocks and 10% government securities for my Retirement account. For a few years I lost money but one has to remember these are shares and they will go up. I expect the market to have 20% gains this year if not higher. I am now doing 70/30 to balance things out more.

Also, for those of us born after 1960, remember the full age for SS is 67. You can still collect earlier but your benefits may be reduced if you are still working.... [ More ]

Back in my working days when I was working such long hours that I didn't have time to follow the market closely enough to be very effective in timing, I pulled all my money out of individual stocks and put it in fairly aggressive mutual funds. It is only in more recent years that I decided to be active in individual stocks again instead.

The way most people lose their money is by buying stocks that do poorly and were not high quality. Right after that are the people who sell to early, panicking about losing money instead of waiting it out. The people who hunkered down still have theirs.

Personally, I would not necessarily invest my winnings to do more than cancel out inflation and continuously draw down a bit of my principal without going broke. Stock market is basically an institutonal shell game.

I am thinking that the way to lose money in the Market is to not sell early enough before it dived. Also when you sell at the bottom you lock in your losses.

I think that Cynthia Stafford locked in her losses when she sold at the bottom.

I don't think budgeting applies to them the same way it applies to us.

Remember when Jackie Siegel (Queen of Versailles) went on a budget and her way of cost cutting was to have her chauffeur drive her to the McDonald's drivethru in the stretch limo.

On the plus side, she had planned to help her husband get back his fortune by winning the lottery. These people have a very surreal existence which don't translate to our reality.

Do a Google search on an article called How to Hide $400 Million . The super rich going through a divorce have their own way of doing things. Not that I completely blame them. If I won $400 million, I'd be stashing a lot of it somewhere private too, nothing to do with marriage or divorce.

I have to admit that I bought PB tickets last night (didn't win a single penny), but I usually just play MegaMillions.

It doesn't have the flashy jackpots like PB, but if I won the current cash prize of $27.7m ($15m after current taxes) I'd consult a tax attorney and CPA before claiming the prize in a Trust or LLC.

Luckily, my State gives you a three month head start before they will release the name (or entity) of the winner to the public. I would be long gone by then.

I hope no one would find me. There also would be NO photo or conference, well to the best of my ability, if not then a disguise for sure. I recall Gloria McKenzie asked for no conference or pictures and the Lottery office called the press to alert her arrival and departure. OMG that would infuriate me.

Would not claim the jackpot until the time frame to receive all monies has passed. Wonder if the bank would place a hold on the funds? Lol I put nothing past any institution.

Are you aware that Monday the 20th of February is a Holiday? President's Day. It is also Family Day in Canada. This three-day weekend could work in a winner's favor. Claim by Friday and go on Holiday on Friday.

Here in California, a winner must wait six to eight weeks to get the check after claiming. Ask for minimal publicity and your name might not be released until Tuesday.

By the time you return you will not even be a news item. Sweet
