I'm already in a technology role that has relatively small pool of qualified people.

I would never take a job as a developer. It is fun to dabble in, but would bore me to tears if I had to do it to make a living day after day. Plus I'd have to devote a chunk of time to formalizing my training that I don't feel like doing, but admittedly would probably be beneficial to my dabbling.

I'll happily take the 40 with no thoughts that it could have been 500. The prize for the game I'm trying to win is only 500K so it is not about a mega pay day. The goal for me is simply to win because for whatever reasons I got it in my head that I will with that game.

Ok, I see what you are saying and I imagine it can be frustrating...

But let me ask you this....

If the jackpot was $500 million...and it went to someone else...and the reset amount of $40 million was won by you...

Would you be mad that you only won $40 million and missed the $500 million by one draw

Actually I have poured years of time into this learning how to program and do some of the math needed to find trends. Over the years I've spent lots of money building servers to store tons of analysis data and run through strategies. So yes, considering the effort I have put in, I get disappointed when I fall short of the mark.

I've missed by one so many times I think I need to adopt 'MSB1' as my nickname!!

In my substitute workout world, I have to choose 2 of 3, 2 of 3 and 2 of 4.

The sad part is choosing, for example, 1 and 3 from 1,2,3 and losing because I actually played 1 and 3, in that order, when the correct

order was 3 and 1.

It's a good feeling winning $5200 in a Pick 4 game by correctly matching the integers and playing them in the right order

It wasn't like winning 2nd second place in MegaMillions with $1M. Chances are if you aren't in the hole already you will if you will if you continue to play Pick5.

I really believe it is all in how you decide to look at it....(and the key words are you decide )

If you understand that the win was not for you but that the 9 out of 10 was, you can begin to appreciate what you did get and not focus so much on what you didn't get.

Go back and re-live the moment, but this time relish the fact that you won 9 out of 10...(you won that, you own it and only you can change the outlook regarding it).

The first time I hit 9 out of 10 digits in NY Pick 10 I was happy for about 5 minutes and then was bummed that I had missed the jackpot by one digit. The last time I got 9 out of 10 if I had chosen an 8 instead of a 7 I would have hit the jackpot. I wasn't even happy for a minute that time. Over a year later and I'm still ticked off about it whenever I think of how close I was.

Of course I am glad that wins like those and others have kept my gambling ledger in the green, but does anyone else... [ More ]
