Something I suspected all along was confirmed to me today.

Not that it'll come as a huge surprise to anybody, but none of the nine Early Bird winners of $100,000 also won a million dollars!

So if PA does have future raffles with Early Bird Drawings , and you win $100,000, be sure to save your ticket, but you'll definitely know way before the main drawing that you can kiss that $1,000,000 top prize good-bye!!

Lets hope they do bring it back and with enhanced early bird drawings too! Even though I bought a total of nine tickets spread across three Early Bird drawings, (all losers!) if there is another raffle, I'll play again. My wife's job regularly takes her to a town in NY that's on the PA border, so it isn't a that big of a deal for me to get tickets.

Strategy for next raffle, if there is one with early bird drawings, is to play week 4 and the final week. I know these numbers are chosen at random, but it sure seems like the final week more often than not rewards those better for the bigger prizes than who play early. Week 4 because odds at winning 100k are under 30,000 to 1 and it is the slow period between the hoopla of the raffle starting and getting anywhere close to the drawing date. Of course, that goes without saying for ANY lottery results. That's why we include a notice about double-checking results on all of our lottery results pages. The state lotteries do make mistakes -- I have reported mistakes many times to the lotteries over the years.

The final column is very short and easily missed. It's shown in the PDF I downloaded around 10:05 pm. However, there have been mistakes in the past with raffle results, so anyone with a ticket should double-check the list and/or scan tomorrow at a retailer.

It's possible that the PA Lottery did not publish the full list online before they pulled it. The number you mentioned (00403256) has another 12 numbers after it. The list I posted has the full 5,892 $100 winners.

I checked the results just after 10 pm and I was pretty positive the number I listed was the final one, and now I see the results are coming soon on the main page. Maybe the lotto updated the numbers? Either way, I will double check all my tickets at the scanner tomorrow.

Results just posted. Approx 404,300 tickets were sold. Bought 2, lost on both.

Interestingly, as commented on in the past, most of the $100K and $1 million prizes were later sold tickets; higher half of numbers. Didn't seem to pay to play early. Other players have said the same thing in the past. Likely among the reasons, though not the main one, sales came up so short.

Thanks for the update. Assuming 420,000 are sold. Odds of winning a million will be around 1 in 105,000. 1 in ~52,500 of winning $100K or more. And around 1 in 70 of winning at least $100. All in all, not too shabby for a numbers game, though hoping they adjust the prize structure and/or add more early-bird prizes (ie. 1 $50K plus 50 more $1K) for the next go around.

Coworker got a ticket this pm, 328,5XX, so if I had to guess, segment 9 is 262000 to 330,000 or 68,000 sold in a week or 9,700 per day avg, which is double compared to two weeks ago and up 18,000 compared to last week. I imagine sales will be a bit slow tomorrow with the holiday and max out around 15,000 a day until Saturday pm. 4.8 days until the drawing. Should sell around 400K tickets or so. As you would expect, no counter on the PA website or at the terminals.

PA will not extend. 299,460 tickets sold is break-even. Sales will near certain exceed that, so PA Lottery will still earn a profit, regardless.

You're probably right about 375,000 or so being sold, though I could see it topping 425,000 with some promotion. Larger than usual in-state jackpots could help too. Cash-5 is at $1 million and Match-6 has grown to $4.8 million, which is the highest it's been in quite awhile.

Segment 8 ranges from 222000 to 262000 or 40000 tickets sold or 5700 sold per day. 11 days until the drawing. Need to sell 21000 per day to sell out, which clearly wont happen. Compared to the New Years raffle, 367000 were already sold with the same amount of days remaining, and sales were really high on New Years Eve which helped to sell out all the tickets the day before the raffle. As a player, I rarely (if ever) consider the lottery's side of the coin.

All I ever think about is having one of those four top prize winning raffle tickets in my hand. But reading your post gave me some good insight with regard to how easily these raffles could disappear. Is the raffle cannibalizing sales from other lottery products? I dunno, but it very well could be. Maybe that's why other states don't offer them.

Thank you for the kind words. Would be neat to work for the lottery doing marketing. PA Lottery does very well as it is, but much of that is due to inertia. Among the first lotteries, running 40+ years, etc. Proposed on-line lottery purchasing will likely boost sales, though could cannibalize some sales from brick and mortar lottery retailers. Biggest challenge is enticing younger players under age ~35 (millennials) who by and large aren't overly excited about the lottery; many rarely play.

Pennsylvania really does have a good thing going by holding these raffles, given the scarcity of them around the country. Florida runs a raffle very similar to PA's, but they do it just once per year at New Years. You just don't see or hear about raffles too much. (If there ever was a place where you'd learn of raffles elsewhere, it'd be here at The Lottery Post, but there isn't much chatter gong on here with regard to raffles in other states.) Should hit the halfway mark in sales by Monday. 16 days until the drawing, need to avg. about 16,000 per day to sell out, which is currently 4 days of worth of sales. Hard to see sustained sales like that.

Ditto. Sales do seem slow. The early-bird drawing is helping sales, but only 1 prize per draw doesn't add much excitement; little chance of winning anything extra.

A better approach would have been to have multiple prizes, such as 1 $50,000 prize and 50 $1,000 prizes (same $100K total). Or something along those lines. If they'd done that, I would have bought more. As of now, I only have 2 tickets. Might buy another or two before the end.

There's about a month to go until the drawing, and it appears is if over 200K tickets have been sold. There are some more Early Bird drawings too, so my guess is in about two weeks the majority of tickets will have been sold. If the mad ticket buying rush at the end of the sales cycle materializes like it has in the past, all 500,000 will likely be gone before the 1st of July. I asked customer service if I can buy a PA raffle ticket on there and they said I they cant take registrations from US customers because of regulations. Oh well. I really want to buy a ticket lol. I wonder if I should just take the trip. I miss playing raffles and love those odds at winning.

These Early Bird drawings are great, but there is a downside to them.

It has to do with one-off's . More tickets are being sold earlier in the sales cycle, and that probably means that players are buying more than just one ticket when they buy them. So what about if you're checking to see if you won a hundred grand, and you find out that somebody who was buying a ticket in Chadds Ford at the same time you were buying your five tickets won that 100G's???? Sales were a bit slower last week, ticket ranges for segment 3 were from 71,000 to 99,000 or 28,000 sold, down 4,000 from the previous segment and down 11,000 or so from the first segment. Mine were purchased on Monday the 15th and are in a range of 69400 to 69450. The winner was 65910, which is about 3500 less than mine. I think you're right, most likely the winner was sold the on Sunday the 14th. If so, then that says of the approximately 4600 per week being sold, the majority of those are sold during the weekend.

Makes sense to me. I would think more tickets are sold on weekends than weekdays. G5

I'd play if I was in PA. My state (Massachusetts) stopped doing raffles like 3 years ago. I wish they still did them. They were so fun to play. I played the Rhode Island Lottey raffle too but they stopped doing that also. So no state near me does raffles anymore.

That actually makes sense to claim your prize in person. I am not sure what the procedure is about claiming major amts. It is just a way for the lottery commission to identify you as a winner. So you're in NY state and you would have to go to Harrisburg.

I'm located in New York's Hudson Valley and have just under an hour's drive to buy tickets, but to me it's worth it. It's very hard to find odds like the PA raffles offer to win a million dollars.

The tickets I bought yesterday were actually purchased by my wife. Every other month or so, she calls on physicians offices that are located in a NY town that's located on the border with PA. Couldn't pass up that opportunity to get some tickets. G5... [ More ]

Congrats to the owner of ticket 14,053, sold at a Rutters in Loganville York County. This was probably sold on Friday may 5, four days into segment 1 sales window. Based on estimated sales, this was likely sold at the 40 percent mark into the ticket window.

Looks like the odds for the first early bird drawing will be in a range of 1:35,000 to 1:39,000. Not bad odds to win $100,000.

I definitely wanted to be in the first early bird drawing. My thinking was that more tickets will be sold during each of the later early bird drawing periods and that the odds would be higher. G5

Makes me think they'll probably sell out way earlier than they did in previous raffles. If they sold 50,000 per week each week for 9 weeks, then they'll have sold 450,000 out of 500,000. I doubt they're selling at 7,000 per day yet, (49,000 per week) but I bet by early to mid June they'll be selling at a rate a lot higher than 7,000 per day. G5

I think that's a high rate for this early in the sales cycle. As I recall from past drawings, they typically sold about 1,000 per day early in the cycle. One thing about The Early Bird Drawings players should know.....

According to the procedures on The PA Lottery's website, if you're lucky enough to win $100,000 in an Early Bird Drawing, you cant claim your prize by mail. Instead, you'll have to appear in person at one of the PA Lottery's offices where you'll be asked to fill out a claim form. Your prize, minus Federal Income Taxes, will be mailed to you in four to six weeks.

I've re-thought how I'm going to play the Millionaire Raffle. During prior raffles, I usually (but not always) delayed buying the majority of my tickets until close to the drawing date.

Because there will be one Early Bird drawing per week until the Main drawing on July 8th, I'm thinking I'm going to buy at least one ticket each week from now until July 8th. I'll post ticket numbers as I get them. G5
