I guarantee that they aren't cursing the billion dollar jackpot. They made more money and got more free publicity for that jackpot than any other in history. Those massive jackpots are their bread and butter. The bigger the jackpot the better for them. Otherwise they'd revert to an easier to win matrix or they'd cap the JP amount.

I dont know why in increased by so much in 2016. It's not like there hadnt been jackpots in the $300-600 M range before.

If it rolls over on Saturday night, it increases by $38 million: $375,000,000 or a lump sum of $235,400,000 which is $142,181,600 after taxes.

Greedy? Not me. I'd be more than happy to win any starting jackpot, including the state one that starts at $7mil which leaves you with about a third of it after taxes. I wont say I buy a ticket for every game but it's the only way you even have a chance of winning.

The next billion dollar jackpot is going to be the mega millions.....not the Powerball. That last one was a fluke......it had never happened before and I am sure they are now cursing it ever did happen.

People are now waiting for 450 million to jump in....where they would have done so at 250 to 300 million

Ticket sales since the big jackpot was hit have slowed down quite a bit since then. The annuity JP was at 334 million and for that drawing there was 108 million in sales for that drawing. It rolled and the advertised JP started out at 400 million but went to 528 million with ticket sales of 352 million for the drawing. Nobody knows for sure, but the chance of it happening is a matter of simple probability. Each ticket sold adds about 62 cents to the cash jackpot, and every 62 cents of cash is about $1 as an annuity, so the advertised annuity value very conveniently works out to about 1 ticket per dollar.

I believe you're right on most, if not all counts. Because that's how they waylaid Gloria after she went to the office to do the paperwork and she told them she would not be willing to do a press conference. That was low of MUSL. Compare that to the lengths Camelot is willing to go through to preserve an individuals privacy including escorting winners through back doors, staff rooms, just to help them avoid the press. One preserves privacy, the other violates it.

Hers was $590 million. The 3 winners got $528.8 million each. So her JP total is still the largest single ticket ever sold. As for the thing with the son. I know what was said, but it didn't seem to me that he was given half. They have her down as the sole winner. If he's supposed to get half of the jackpot then why not claim as co-winners the way friends or families do. And since giving half to a non-spouse is tax suicide., I find it unlikely.

I'd only really want to beat her record if I played in an anonymous state.

Was looking up the FL hq and the way it is set up is a looooong walk to visitor parking, perfect for media waylaying types. And you have to claim in Tallahassee apparently, no driving to some far away claim center like you can in NY where you can claim in Manhattan, Schenectady or, which one winner did, up in the Fishkill region. And the cherry on top: I think you have to call ahead and make an appointment.

Even tho Gloria was the largest single winner, she won less than the 3 couples who split the 1.6 billion jackpot. Set your sights higher! Remember, Gloria also said that there was an agreement to split in half any winnings with her son. I just checked to see if there was an update on Gloria but did not find one. No matter. Looking at some of the old articles, boy did they invade her privacy. They interviewed or tried to interview all her neighbors. It was ridiculous. She's up there in years tho in pretty good physical shape when she won the jackpot.

It's sure taking it's own sweet time to get going. We're at 250 now, so $6M less than at the billion dollar run at this marker. It would need to hit at least $300 million on Wednesday, then duplicate or exceed the rest of the rollovers. Better to have a shot at a $1 million dollar jackpot every time there is a draw than once in a blue moon multi million dollar one. The 5/5 starts at about $85k and only increases by that amount each draw. Most people who win it win a fraction of last nite's $3mil.

There are 2 things that occurred in creating the billion dollar jackpot that haven't occurred since. If those 2 things happen again, it'll probably reach a billion.
