This advice only applies to the Illinois Lottery and considering their history of not paying, good luck collecting.

States and countries that allow players to remain anonymous don't seem to have a problem by doing so.

The Australian lottery has a box on the play slip, NP, for No Publicity.

I like the idea of leaving it up to the players.

Great advice for the lottery, not so much for winners who will be hounded for money. Allowing winners to remain anonymous is great for winners. However, not for the public at-large...

Transparency in all aspects of lottery is important, especially in light of various lottery scandals, such as with Hot Lotto. With more states hiding winner information, there will near certain be more insider fraud than ever. The temptation is too great for many to pass up.

Not much you can do to stay aloof when you're mug and amount won is going to be seen by anyone who looks at a lottery monitor in the entire state. The state in essence is contacting all those mentioned and and is many more fpr you.

The Illinois lottery used to post first and last name and town until people contacted them about Abraham Shakespeare

I cut and paste the advice printed on the Illinois Lottery website below the dotted lines. I have highlighted the words of advice they give to anyone winning over $1 million. In my opinion, that is absolutely terrible advice! Personally, when I win, I will not even tell my mom because that would be the same as calling your entire address book, as was portrayed in the movie Lottery Ticket. What do you think LP
