The definition of randomness the quality or state of lacking a pattern or principle of organization; unpredictability.

Isn't counter-intuitive to say 'your' random generator will produce patterns, Can your elaborate on the phrase produce patterns'?. From random angle, any observed patterns is a mirage ,why? The premise of the game is clear !. This observation does not preclude one from finding a way to predict numbers, one need to build a system around this premise. My ideal around numbers is... [ More ]

Of course people just want to win . If there was a utility that would output numbers that just win , then it would not be called a RNG. It would be a system.

I won't just let the topic drop because I will not concede something that is totally wrong. Like saying that a RNG (even a bad RNG) is a system or that there are somehow different definitions of what a RNG is or what it attempts to do.

People shouldn't use a psuedo-RNG on a website because it's the same bad RNG that a lottery terminal... [ More ]

I just want to clarify that the ONLY part I disagree with is You should not be evaluating a random number generator based on the number of times it hits.

I DO agree with you that your everyday, out of the box RNG is more of a system rather than a more true RNG. That is evident by the RNG on my website. It is a seeded RNG which WILL produce patterns. It also produces the same numbers each time your seed is identical to a previous seed. Even if I took away the seed factor, you may get differen... [ More ]

You are not looking at this objectively. The purpose of a system is to try and predict numbers that will be drawn. On the other hand, a RNG is not random if it tries to predict the numbers that will be drawn.

The best RNG is truly random, meaning there is absolutely no patterns or predictability. That definition has nothing to do with whether the numbers win or not. One has nothing to do with the other.

Further, if you use a psuedo-RNG that is included in the programming language of a we... [ More ]

Todd, when you say You should not be evaluating a random number generator based on the number of times it hits. A random number generator is evaluated based on it's randomness -- it's ability to produce numbers without discernible patterns or predictability. , doesn't that defeat the main goal of playing the lottery, which is generating numbers that produce a lottery win?

I understand that if the goal is to get a more true random set, then yes, your way is by far the best method.
