I think it's pretty obvious that LP posters pushing odds and probability are actually members of an anti-gambling group, sect, or whatever.

I may be wrong but I think 99.9 percent of the folks who buy lottery products know what the odds of winning are, but they don't really care.

I know people who wouldn't spend two cents on lottery. They know any money they invest is lost.

Yes, luck is a factor, but, luck is like odds and probability - beyond our control.

Outing me probably isn't a big deal, but pushing your luck would be unwise. Such things are handled by a totally different department and I'm not near the loop, let alone in it, but I've already been hearing talk around the water cooler mentioning you and whether or not there's going to be another job for Mr. Smith .

Who said it was forced? Of course lottery is voluntary taxation. That s the advertisement of all lotteries. Lottery is voluntary and helps with many a good cause. That s how I knew you was a lottery employee of a high rank.

Personally I'd be happier of QP's didn't exist.

You know that people are allowed to choose their own numbers, right? Whatever disadvantages there may be to playing QP's it's entirely voluntary. Personally I'd be happier of QP's didn't exist. When people choose their own numbers they tend to avoid a lot of the possible combinations. That increases the chances of a rollover for a lot of drawings, and reduces the chances that I'd have to share a jackpot if I should be lucky enough to win.

My point is the quick picks are advantageous to the lotteries and disadvantageous to the players. We differ in the scale of advantage/disadvantage.

I can take an extreme example that many people in USA and Down Under remember. One American lotto game reached a jackpot far larger than total combos in the game. WRONG! Jus the simple pick3

It should have been extremely clear that I was talking about powerball. It's fairly pointless (maybe even downright stupid) to talk about how often you'd get duplicates for pick 3 because the low number of possibilities means repeats will be quite common due to the volume of tickets.

People paid twice for 370 tickets

It's amazing that people can find ways to give an electrical device capabilities it can't possibility possess - life.

I'm not an engineer but I've been around electronics all my adult life.

A random number generator is not a living device. It has no memory.

When activated, it generates the required number of numeric combinations.

About as often as random probability suggests.

What are other types of probability? I think its only one: probability.

Even with more modest sales it's a certainty that once in a while a QP gets the winning combination from the previous drawing.

I bet you it is a whole more than once in a while . Think of pick3 only. Theres only 1000 combos and thousands and thousands of players buying tickets every draw. theres a multitude of daily Qps that duplicate the last draw. There... [ More ]

FWIW - If someone has a serious question about whether or not they should play the last winning combination for their favorite game ought to visit the official lottery website and check it out.

Using the Have your numbers ever won or 'check your numbers features one can learn pretty quickly about the history of every combination, or partial combination that has ever come out of the lottery machines.

About as often as random probability suggests. For the record PB 2 years ago there were about 635 million tickets sold. With QP's accounting for 70 to 80% of sales there may have been 450 to 500 million of them for that one single drawing. That would mean about an 80% chance that at least one QP had the winning combination from the previous drawing, and about a 96% chance that at least one ticket had the winning combination from one of the two previous drawings. What kind of patterns? What is pattern? Like 123 or 0000 or 5-15-25-35-45-55? I heard old random pickers repeated numbers in the same lotto combination, they fixed that.

Agree that the odds are the samefor any combo. But how often does it happen? Would you play the jackpot combination of last draw? Chances are big you wont win the next draw.. you would only want to prove a point and pay for it.. the lotteries luv it

If the lottery terminal was incapable of generating numbers that have already won then it wouldn t be a random number generator. Random means anything is possible.

Unfortunately lottery terminals also suffer from having poor random number generators that are prone to producing patterns.

There's anecdotal evidence that buying multiple QP's will sometimes result in several numbers being repeated. Other than that and very rare glitches QP's are random, with no regard to past winning combinations or what's already been sold for the current drawing.

Depending on the game you're playing the chance of a particular QP spitting out any combination that has won in the past ranges from the extremely unlikely 3000ish in 292 million to the somewhat unlikely few thousand in a few hundred... [ More ]

QPs repeat winning numbers but nobody notices until they get back home and check.. Think of pick3.. there are only 1000 combos and thousands of players every day. The quick picks repeat past winning str8 sets many times every draw. They even repeat the last night draw many times. Random numbers have a good chance to repeat. It doesnt mean the lotteries are rigged. QPs are convenient but it s better to try your own combinations that don t repeat recent winners.

Every lottery gambler knows that Quick Picks are created/generated by a random number generator located in the lottery terminal.

These devices do not have a memory, therefore, it's possible that an RNG can put out the same combinations - even back-to-back.

When this happens, the buyers usually sound off, accusing the lottery of rigging the games, etc, etc, etc.

Face it, quick picks are a simple, easy, quick way to buy lottery tickets.
