It didn't slow down this time. It jumped $12 million from $55 million dollars to $67 million dollars for Tuesday April 17th after someone won a big jackpot worth $533 million dollars in the last draw

I figured out that the Mega Millions jackpot rolls and increases $5 million about three times before it does go up big time.

Both MM and PB start at amounts that aren't covered by the initial sales, so it's takes a while to catch up. It looks to me like PB may increase the jackpot by a bit more than the minimum based on strong sales even before there's enough to actually fund the jackpot, typically right after a really big jackpot gets hit. Thanx for doing the research for us. Interesting to say the least, so I dont really see what all the hoopla was to make this big change? Six to one, half a dozen the other.

I will play MM when the pot gets about $200 million or so. It has to be worth it to me to win some decent $$$ if I am going to beat the extraordinary odds.

I'm with the majority, I don't see any difference between the two anymore. One more WB and one less MB, big deal. I'm sticking with the Powerball just because there's more history. My Mega money is going to home state lotteries.

I was a bit curious about the slow increase, so I went back to 2014 and looked throughout the year to see if there were any big changes or were things different(please don't tell me about the odds/cost-I am well aware of that aspect). To remind us, after a big jackpot MM win,it started back at $15M and then went to $20M, then usually up around the $25/maybe $26M(on occasion a smidge higher that year),. LOL, Thanx Redd55, I was thinking wow, I must be stupid, I couldnt figure out how they could control the sales, stop people from buying tickets? hahahahahahahaha.

And CDanaT, I too, now buy the state and lower level games. I just hate the astronomical odds that MM created for their game. IMO MM shot themselves in the foot, a total waste. I may play but nothing like being in every game. $200 million is a good starting point to jump in once and while.

It is due to slow sales. The minimum increase is $5 mil. If sales are robust, nothing stops them from increasing the pot by more than $5 million.

I hear ya Lej..... That increase in odds and price cured me of purchasing any tickets until the advertised annuity is at around $200M or higher..... Spend my $$ on local lotteries instead.

I too noticed it didnt increase much, I thought it was due to slow sales. Thanx for that info weshar. Now why would they want to limit the growth? What am I missing here? Just gives me more reasons why I dont play this game anymore.

It is in the rules that it only increases by 5 million a draw not 10 million like powerball.-weshar75

Is it me or has Mega slowed its Jackpot down? The last two draws have only increased by 5 million each time. I try to follow the 2 large games closely, I always thought Mega increased a minimum of 10 mil each draw... The last two have only increased by 5 mil.

Are they slowing down jackpot? Because of sales?

People don't like the larger odds until the jackpot increases?

Just curious if anyone noticed or if they have a reason.
