Well that was an interesting race. It was easy to see in the race replay from an overhead view. The #5 Restoring Hope, (appropriate name in this case) who is also trained by Bob Baffert, pulled up just outside and a little behind Justify. This effectively blocked in the #3 Bravazo with nowhere to go, and allowed Mike Smith to back off the pace a little. Coming into the stretch, #6 Gronkowski was coming up fast, but Justify did have enough in the tank to fend him off.
