Thanks Artistt77, MsBee18.

There's something else too. On one of TLC's lottery shows they interviewed a winner in New Mexico. He said he was getting several bags of mail a day addressed to;

Lottery Winner

New Mexico.

He asked the post office if that wasn't kind of weak for an address to deliver to and they told him if they knew where he was they had to deliver.

Agree Coin Toss. Very publicly available info. Also counties list addresses of business online and if you are a member of bbb, etc., it is too easy. Might as well claim in your own name. Zero additional protection. Your business info would just give a scammer another way to try to get your money. That painting you sold me fell on my head...lol. Your business would be settling $20,000 to $40,000 nuisance claims...go away money...night and day...if you won a lot of money.

Good find, CDanaT.

I'm thinking that even if the idea posed ion the OP got passed any state lottery if it's a legit registered business it wouldn't be hard to find out who the owner is. Also there are plenty who would do just that.

Artist what say ye

I was looking around at different Lottery sites this morning and noticed on Colorado's website that under the winners section the drop down menu has claiming prizes financial counsel . I clicked on the counsel part and they repeatedly state about talking with a financial professional whether it be a lawyer, accountant of financial planner. I though that was very admirable of them. I did notice further down the list was the How do I go about form a trust and the reply went like this:

The Lott... [ More ]

To add a little to Artist77 s excellent response...depending on your state there may also be a law in place that requires the lottery to release the name of the trustee as well as the name of the business or trust. I think Florida is one of those states. Now, if you re the trusting sort you could have your lawyer be the trustee of your initial trust or business to claim your prize.

I m not that trusting!

Lucy

It depends on your state lottery rules and how they define a claimant. For example, a claimant can only be an individual and not a business or trust in Virginia. Your business is not in the business of buying lottery tickets and it would not be an ordinary business expense. This argument would be laughed out of court.

It would be very simple to find out your name from the business anyway.

With the situation of the lady that won the half billion dollar and refuse to provide her identity because of wanting to keep her privacy, can a self-employ use the name of their business to be the name of the winner without having to provide their personal identity that will attract all kind of attentions?
