I remember on another website someone said something like, If I won The Lottery, and quit my job, there is no way in hell that I'd end up so broke in a year that I begged for my old job back.

I remember hearing a guy quit his job when h got the Lottery Winnings Check. He told his boss something like, I won the Lottery. I'm wealthy now and don't need this job anymore. Screw this job, I quit! He blew through his millions with more gambling, alcohol, prostitutes, fancy clothes, fancy houses and cars, fancy trips, fancy jewelry, etc. He was broke in a year and went back to his old workplace that he had so callously thrown away as soon as he got his millions, and begged for his job back.... I've thought about that too... but wasn't sure if we would have enough time. I believe the ticket must be claimed in 6 months. I've looked into it and you must live in Wyoming 6 months to be considered a resident of the state ... hopefully I'm wrong . Trust me, I dont want utah getting any of that lotto money, they definitely dont deserve it.

I buy my tickets in WYO also. My first action would be to move there immediately and claim the prize on 1/1/2019. No offense to the fine state of Utah but I have no intention of donating $15M (assuming I'm a single ticket winner) to their coffers for nothing, esp. since they refuse to allow lottery sales.

I currently have a MM ticket from Wyoming so I could / would claim anonymously. Even after receiving my funds I would still work for a month or 2 max then give my 2 weeks. I dont want it to cross anyone s mind that I may be the winner. Then I would say I was quitting to pursue my side gig as a pet sitter full time and travel a bit more... would be very believable to the folks who know me :) then I'd pack my bag and start traveling the world .

The odds of even knowing anyone who won PCH are long enough let alone winning it. Last time I checked it was over a billion to win the big PCH sweep but it is free

It usually takes about one month until you get the money in your bank account.

Unless you are already wealthy, or could survive a month without a paycheck, just keep your mouth shut and then quit.

Place where my wife worked, woman won the PCH sweepstakes, quit only to learn it would be a year before the first real check, apparently you can't cash the big one. She had to beg for her job back . . . don't quit until you have cash in hand.

Some States only require the release of your full name. Plus the paperwork with your ID, Social Security card, ticket and claim form.

We do not see very many self-made millionaires flashing their cash in public. They live private lives. Safe and secure.

Great points and there are those of us who work in companies at certain levels that upon resignation, the company prefers to pay you out and end the relationship same day.

I agree,,, what resignation letter ? No use working a two weeks notice out. The amount of resentment from fellow co-workers would be terrible 'if' they knew the reason for me quitting. So mums the word would have to be the route to take.

What resignation letter? I will copy Julie Leach from Michigan and call it quits that day or night. Scott Bowen the Michigan Lottery host was happy to see her claim $140,000,000.00 after all deductions and taxes are paid.

She must be living the good life because we have not heard anything from her.

That would depend on 2 issues:

1.Do i get along and enjoy working with my superiors.

2. Do I enjoy my job.

If I did ? I would give a 2-3 week notice. Offer to help them find a suitable replacement.

If I did not ? Ensure all my Vac/PL/SL was used up. The lottery commission had verified the ticket/claim? Drive back to work after verification and type up the following:

Mr/Ms _____,

Please consider this a 2 week notice of resignation. Sorry I forgot to send this out 13 days ag... [ More ]
