I understand what you're saying, but the discussion about a news story would typically take place in the comments section of the news story, rather in a redundant thread. Of course if a news story is older and it's comments have closed, then it is perfectly fine to create a new discussion thread that revives the discussion about it. In that case, including a link to the original news story in the first post is a good idea in order to give people an idea of what it is referring to.

But u was not trying to post as a news story, moreso wanted to discuss the potential to claim anonymously even in a state that is in favor of disclosing name, city and state of the winner.

I will keep the rule you pointed out in mind next go round.

I get what you are saying. But in the news story the PA lottery suggested it was the first time they came across a trustee that was adamant about not revealing the actual winner(s) name(s). I don't think any other PA lottery jackpot has been claimed anonymously prior to this. I have played in PA and I called the lottery and asked if I can claim anonymously through a trust, the answer was flat out no...same answer in CT and VA.

I am happy about this turn of events in PA, I will be more inclin... [ More ]

I actually prefer big winners having their basic identity revealed eventually, just because it helps to show that the whole thing isn't rigged. Some Ma Pa nobodies from a small rural town, as well as some people struggling in impoverished urban environments, and so on, should be winning sometimes, and I like to see that. I do think though that winners should be given some months after claiming their winning, before their identity and story is revealed. They should be given time to make decisions... [ More ]

This law firm definitely asserted the rights of trusts.

The trust has no rights that result in special treatment if the law or lottery regulations require disclosing the name of the actual person(s) who win. There are states that only permit actual persons to claim lottery prizes, but it may be that the PA lottery is only required to release the name of the winner, and as a valid legal entity a trust can be the winner. Why no previous winner has shielded their name by claiming as a trust is

@Raven62 I am assuming the PA lottery had not encountered a law firm that asserted based on the trust set up...all the lottery was entitled to was the name of the trustee (which was the attorney). This law firm definitely asserted the rights of trusts. I am shocked. I don't think there has been an anonymous winner of jackpot until now (the 457 M Powerball win).

So I thought this was impossible in PA...but the $457 M jackpot won in PA in March 2018 was claimed by the attorney representing the Emerald Legacy Trust. The attorney was from a large powerful law firm. I have now marked that law firm as part of my potential team for claiming a large winning ticket. I play wherever I travel, but always had a preference for the states that allow one to claim anonymously.

I did not see a post on this in the discussion forum, so started this thread.
