Well, the CASH OPTION on the Mega Millions website is showing $119 million, but it is actually $119.9 million

The question I asked was why MM doesn't put the decimal place amount in the cash value area of the estimated jackpot. No one, except Todd gave an answer, only opinions.

Of course, if the cash value is $176.1 mil and not $173.7 mil, I will get the higher amount.

If you get lucky enough to win you'll get all the cash that's coming to you, but it won't have anything to do with the cash value that was on any website. The only thing that will matter is the actual sales and how much money is in the jackpot prize pool. The Texas lottery website shows the current mm jackpot cash value in 10ths of millions of dollars.

So do the California and Oklahoma lottery websites, and probably other states too. There are plenty of places to find the more precise figure.

The Mega Millions website dropped the decimal place long before this latest big jackpot run. I can't remember exactly when they started dropping the decimal place, but it has been at least several months. (Plus MM is not run by MUSL.

Their estimated jackpot is occasionally off by $60 million or so, but at least they don't round the cash value to the nearest million. If they did that it would sometimes be claimed as 400k more than it really is.

The information is generally inconsistent among lotteries. Lottery Post tries to be consistent and show the same information about every lottery. If only 5 lottery jackpots among 100 different games has its cash value published, that's not a great experience. But, that's why USA Mega exists: To show all of the info about the Mega Millions and Powerball games, not just the stuff that is consistent throughout the industry with the rest of the games.

Just out of curiosity..... What was the reason(s) LP didn't publish or consider publishing the cash value ? Other than it just has never done it in the past. Perhaps it could be a consideration based on the number of winners taking the cash option on jackpots nowadays ? I always appreciate the cash value option being posted.

The only number that matters is the one that is determined after all the sales are tabulated, after the drawing. Even just 3 minutes before the drawing is an estimate. An estimate of a large number with a great deal of precision is of no use. 89.2 million, 88.7 million, and 89 million are the same for all practical purposes.

We bring up the fact the LP has never had a cash value, yet, you insist the MM site provide something you've never done on the LP.

If this cash value accuracy and precision is not an issue, then this post is pointless.

Live with the fact they don't post cash values to the tenths decimal place in millions.

Or, do one better than the MM site and post the cash values here at the LP.

Maybe the LP is the place to be for those cash value seeking folk.

We're also not talking about the fact that Lottery Post does not show the cash value of jackpots. Lottery Post never has shown that value for any lottery jackpot, so I'm not sure why you're trying to make it into an issue.

The Mega Millions website absolutely should show the decimal place. I have requested it, and they have said that it's going to stay the way it is.

So the answer is just visit www.usamega.com instead. We show the decimal place in the cash value there.

I will concur with you on that one TMM. Yes, it is an estimate and subject to change, of course. I am just surprised that any estimate in the hundred million + range has a decimal point to it at all. But perhaps it's more of an exact estimate for certain Lottery agencies as opposed to little importance at all for others.. When you go to www.MegaMillions.com it shows the annuity value of the jackpot as well as the cash value. But, they don't show the decimal amount in the cash value.

EX: Current jackpot is $155 mil and CV is $89 mil. It is actually $89.2 mil

Why not show the .2
