Just thinking, if the store also has a lottery vending machine, they could put the tickets from the broken rolls in there and only people checking the numbers would be the wiser. For those who always buy their tickets at the same location and wonder why they never have a decent winner . . . try a different store.

Each ticket is numbered so the retailer knows how many tickets were sold and how many of each remains. If they were ripped apart, there would be no way, other than manually counting each ticket type to figure out how much was sold.

I agree, there was a discussion about this regarding the NY Lottery last year some time. Apparently there is a particular store in NYC that rips apart stacks of scratch-offs, and customers can pick any of them and buy them. The NY Lottery allows them to do this, so apparently there is no prohibition on buying tickets from the middle of the stack.

I can ask the cashier to give me tickets from the middle of the book, she will pull, tear, give me the ones from in there, then put the others back in the drawer. You don't have to purchase the next ones in line. She scans the barcodes on the back for the purchase.

Isn't it a lottery regulation that the next scratch-off purchased be the next one in the roll? I recall reading somewhere that tearing it off and then not selling it is a no-no, sort of like printing a QP lotto ticket and saying nah, I changed my mind . Too late.

So, what purpose does it actually serve to supposedly understand the bar coding when you must still purchase the tickets from the start? I mean, I agree with another poster in that no store clerk will allow you to just ' visually scan' series of bar codes in hopes of finding a winner because the overall objective is to sell 'X' amount of losers with 'X' amount of winners factored in. I can check if a ticket is a winning ticket or not without the requirement to scratch it first. It isn't just a party trick, it is breaking the scratch offs entirely.

Cool. Since you're apparently confused about what you need somebody to post I'll fix that for you.

The new guy needs somebody to post a picture of just the barcode of a MN lottery ticket, not a completely scratched ticket.

Most lottery scratch tickets that have visible barcodes on the back of the ticket also have a long number with ticket game number, book number, and ticket number visible. If there is a long number visible next to it on the MN tickets, that barcode is simply a representation of that visible number.

The barcodes under the latex on the Florida Lottery scratch tickets include the visible number on the back of the ticket AND additional numbers to verify the ticket. It is a replication of the long number under the latex next to the barcode with the three boxed digits. Three different ways to check the ticket at a lottery terminal are:

* Scan the barcode under the latex

* Scan the visible barcode on the back of the ticket + enter the three boxed digits in the long number under the latex... [ More ]

I know this isn't what you're looking for.

I'm looking at three Florida Scratch Offs one is a winner two are not.

The bar codes are . . .

1389-0180488-3-057 (093)

1389-0180488-3-058 (092)

1389-0180488-3-059 (091)

The bar code bars are identical until half way roughly just over the 3 and different toward the end where I assume it's picking up the changing numbers.

I hope someone posts a ticket for you. It seems complicated to me, like are you talking about recreating the barcodes, I can t figure out how that would happen. But to answer your question, what would I do? I would be buying scratchers left and right, they ll show you the back of the tickets if you ask, and I would be trying my hardest to make as much as I can. Maybe I should state it differently... I can guess the exact barcode, using only information on the outside of the ticket (post a picture of a back of a ticket from MN, I will demonstrate) with accuracy nearing 0.25% of getting a 1:1 match.

EDIT: As in, I can check if a ticket is a winning ticket or not without the requirement to scratch it first. It isn't just a party trick, it is breaking the scratch offs entirely.

Newer barcode technologies have redundancy and error correction built in that allow partial barcodes to be read successfully. Barcodes that are damaged or partially missing can still be read and even recreated if enough of the barcode remains. It's always a good idea to never publish any part of a barcode until a ticket is cashed...

When I first started scratching I used to hold onto all the tickets, keep them in a pile and then cash them eventually. A scratch card wouldn t last more than a day around me nowadays though. I m not sure what you re trying to do or prove honestly. How does looking at a fully scratched ticket help anyone in anyway? One must buy the ticket in order to scratch it. I considered buying X-ray glasses, they have them they re real, once to see if they would work..Other than that idea I ve yet to hear a... [ More ]

I would think you could either contact the MN lottery directly or else contact one of those investigative reporters at a local TV station. Or else just post your method here and shine the light of day on it.

To demonstrate the ability, send me a picture of the front and back of a fully scratched MN lottery scratch off ticket, but cover up 1/2 of the barcode. I will reply with the full barcode to demonstrate the ability.

Since I can do this with 100% accuracy I think it is the best place to start.
