That's exactly what I do at the casino where I work. Stinky homeless people get carded. Hopefully they don't have ID, and if so, great, go away, but sadly most do, so I have no choice but to sell them chips and watch them lose.

If I give them anything it's non-perishable survival food like jerky and nuts. The homeless shelter gives them healthy food.

I knew a convenience store owner who hated selling homeless people beer and lotto, but didn't know a legal way to deny them without getting in trouble for discrimination. Then a lawyer he knew told him to start carding every single customer who wanted to buy age-restricted products, no matter if they looked like their 100th birthday was old news. Since homeless people... [ More ]

I don't give homeless persons money. If l am in an area where there is a McDonalds, Taco Bell, Kfc,and l am approached, l will ask You hungry, if so, let's go in and get you something to eat. There is no way l am buying scratchers for homeless folks, the idea is absurd.

Um No. I buy a cup of coffee or a cup of tea if they prefer, or a cup of soup almost always on a very cold night or a very snowy night if I see them stuck outside late just sitting there freezing. But that s my prerogative. I do feel bad and sympathize in those types of situations no matter what. Once when I was drunk I think I started patting a guy on the shoulder and just talking away. I left after I gave him whatever dollars I had left in my pocket haha.

The person you saw buy a scratcher for a homeless person should have bought them food or something they could use.

I have seen people begging for change outside of a lottery location. When they get enough donations , they run right inside and buy a scratcher with the money they collected.

The store keeper told me of this one woman who bought a $1 ticket and won $2,700.

I guess that's why they say..... A dollar and a dream

The other day I saw a convenience store customer buy lottery tickets for a homeless man. Now, I've seen homeless people by lottery tickets and scratchers for themselves, but it never struck me as odd because you expect them to spend their money on vices. A regular person giving them tickets is out of the ordinary.

On the one hand, it seems cruel because the ticket is most likely a loser and they'll get their hopes up for nothing. On the other hand, maybe it gives them a big rush of hope they... [ More ]
