This is why you NEVER buy a ticket that isn't connected to the rest of the roll. Tickets that are picked apart have a better chance of being losers.

The intent to defraud could come from not using an actual purchased legitimate ticket in the ticket scanner and also from attempting to discover a ticket's status before purchasing it. Also, any store clerk helping with this could be subjecting their store to possible loss of their lottery selling license. Certainly don't wish to do anything illegal. I'm not understanding how there is any intent to defraud. I don't see anything wrong with intelligently picking winning tickets. What am I not understanding here ? Until I understand it better, please no one use this to check a ticket you have not already bought. It will just be shown to prove I can do so with a ticket you already own...

If none of the 5 match you can let me know, I can further prune the possible barcodes. It won't match an incorrect ticket, it will simply be invalid.

Yes, it is possible the ticket is sold before you return. Another way to profit is to buy a full pack, selling the $50 tickets that aren't scratched for anything over $20 for instance turns it into a winning game.

Thank you good sir! Now that I've seen all three of his posts it makes more sense why people aren't rolling out the barcodes he needs. Seems like the general consensus is, If you going to do something bordering on illegal it might be best to keep it to yourself.

Can't say I disagree with that thinking.

I doubt this is a real flaw in the system and I also doubt the success claimed. The number on the back of the ticket (usually the sequence#, book#, and ticket#) does not include the additional validation data that is on the barcode underneath the scratch area on the front. Validation data cannot be obtained from the number on the back of the ticket. It would be wise to not try this scheme as generating barcodes and then having them read by the ticket scanners could lead to legal charges such as

If you thought you found a security flaw in MN scratch offs, why wouldn't you contact the MN lottery with your concerns? Or why wouldn't you keep it to yourself and discreetly profit?

Roping in strangers on a public forum to join in fraud is what law enforcement agents do when they're running a sting operation. Best of luck to you officer, hope you get a nice big raise.

I'm going to need some proof here.

Not that I don't believe you, but sure sounds iffy when you are sending back 5 bar codes per ticket which I'm supposed to scan. What if none of the five match the ticket?

You can call me skeptical but forking out $10 to $50 per ticket based on your algorithms being 65% right is not convincing.

And there is always that possibility the ticket is sold by time you send the barcodes back.

This is for Minnesota ONLY at this time. Texas and California coming soon.

1.) Visit a MN lottery retailer, let them know you want to see the backs of some tickets before you buy them. You can tell them you only like to buy lucky tickets with certain numbers contained in the codes. What you need is the 20 digit code below the barcode. Sometimes the tickets are placed below the counter, etc. You can hand them your mobile phone to take pictures of a few tickets. I like to do only the $10+ ticke... [ More ]
