The Louisiana Lottery site has a unclaimed prizes over $5000 page that isn't the smaller value prizes I was talking about, but better than nothing.

If someone chooses not to claim it, that is their right. That sort of tracking could also interfere with anonymous claiming.

That is pretty simple one to answer dr san. Its called freedom. Where you and you alone are responsible for your purchases and to make your claims. Where big brother(aka the government) isn't involved in every transaction to, as you put it number of identity or control that linked the person who bought it is already notified . On a scale of 1-10 it's a pretty neat concept actually that I would rate as a 10.

When a jackpot isn't claimed all the money goes back to the state lotteries that contributed to it. The people who run MM can't keep it for themselves, so how would they benefit from this since no winner has showed up?

Heck, we can't even get a complete list of all the available prizes(only top 3) on any of our scratch-offs, let alone any prize amounts left unclaimed. This is Tennessee, so with Dear ole Rebecca in charge, it truly doesn't surprise me.

Considering all the daily games, there are probably several prizes of all sizes that expire every day, but we only read about the prizes six figures or higher. Nobody expected to see a billion dollar jackpot heading towards the not claimed file , but conspiracy theories are expected.

Running a scam like that would undermine the integrity of the game. I can't see the lottery officials willing to risks billions in annual profit over something like that.

My hope is that the winner has sought out good legal and financial advice and is now in process of getting their affairs in order before moving on with their new life. Winning a lottery jackpot is a major event, winning a 1.5 Billion lottery jackpot is an event at a whole different level

That doesn't make any sense. The large jackpot was driving sales like crazy. Once it gets won, the jackpot drops to $40 million and few people play. Why would Megamillions want to delete the jackpot and turn down all those ticket sales
