California regulators were watching a live surveillance feed of a trainer s assistant carrying a bucket into the stall of a horse named Tick Tock. Just moments after the assisatmt left, a white foam was clearly visible on the horses' lips, often a telltale sign of performance-enhancing drugs.

SA long time trainer takes the fall :-(

Santa Anita management banned a highly accomplished and respected trainer,Jerry Hollendorfer, after a 4th horse from his stable died, this the 30th, over all. to die since December 26th.

Nota Bene;

An ole fav strategy move from the scapegoat book: when a major disaster find someone experdient to blame

So Jerry was ordered to load pack up his gear, load up horses (but don't mount up) and get out of Dodge: i.e. Santa Anita and Golden Fields

California Gov. Calls On Santa Anita Race Track To Suspend Races: 'Enough Is Enough' :-(

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday said enough is enough and urged the Santa Anita race track to suspend activities for the rest of the season until officials can determine why so many horses have been dying at the popular venue.

A 3 year old gelding, 'Commander Coll' break down fatality, is th track's first fatality since March 31st, it increases the total to 24 since Dec.26th :-(

A horse was put down at Keeneland on Saturday. The had five last year and that's a lot considering their limited racing schedule.

Horse death toll hits 23 at Santa Anita two days after racetrack's reopening

Santa Anita had reopened Friday after closing from its four-day-a-week racing schedule as track operators tried to figure out what was causing the deaths. Despite extensive testing of the dirt course, no known cause was found for the increase in breakdowns, although there was speculation that excessive rain might have played a role.
