Wouldn't be a very smart cashier. And wouldn't be a cashier too long.

Selling a ticket and cancelling it two minutes later, without attaching the ticket to the cancellation slip would be the end of their cashier career. The manager would see all the cancellation slips but no tickets. There would be questions.

If anybody ever came in with a winning ticket that had been cancelled two minutes after it was purchased, that clerk would be out the door (the manager has a schedule to knows who... [ More ]

Thank you TMM2005 for the clarity! Yes, this was a Mega Millions ticket (just checked #s and did not win - so nothing lost!) Checking tickets at the scanner is great advice. Will do.

What the cashier printed was a transaction receipt. They need that to tally the till at the end of their shift.

If you want to know if your ticket has been voided, just check it at a lottery scanner.

In NYS, you cannot void any ticket without the ticket being scanned by the terminal. Also, only some of the draw game tickets can be voided. Hi! I purchase quick pick lotto tickets at a Big Box Store. On a few occasions I observed the following: after paying for and receiving my ticket(s) I noticed the cashier make a few quick key entries and an item similar to a lotto ticket would be generated the cashier would quickly remove it and then put it in the till of the cash register. I am wondering if possibly they have voided the purchased quick pick ticket and then keep the $ that paid for the ticket?
