The bet slips are not only for picking your own numbers they are also for accuracy in the number of draws etc. I remember years ago in NJ before they had betslips what a pain in the butt it was. You would wait in line forever while each person would tell the clerk what numbers they wanted to play. Now it's alot more efficient ----they run the betslips through and can wait on other customers while they print. The betslips are the best thing they've come out with.

Mother's Day 1999 was the first time I ever had a claimer for playing the same numbers 5 times on a ticket. I had a 1K win that night. I still have it framed.

The clerk fixing the machine is one thing. Having a machine that has your money and won't give you what you want is another. I don't ever want to be in the position of choosing between hollering for a clerk who's halfway across the store and walking away from a machine that might be perfectly willing to let somebody else use my money while I'm trying to find a clerk that can make the machine give me what I want. Well now that as a result of this forum I know that I can use the playslip for multidraw I'll use that, and if it works in the machine even better. That misprint is why I won't go out of my way to try and support smaller/rural retailers anymore. I can tell that places don't really like when you just buy lottery tickets, customer service or gas stations, since they make such little commission on the sales, I think it's 1% on sales and 5% on winners here. I go to a store where you can stand to the side of the lottery terminal. I tell them exactly what I want and I watch eveything. I have taught many new clerks on how to use the terminals. Its very easy.

What was she expected to do? It was printed face up. She picked it up same as anybody. In the same way she picks up every ticket, face to her. That's where the date and price are. The same way you would pick it up too.

You know, the mark of a good story is when the teller can recall all the necessary details that absolves him/her from any wrongdoing. Or they make it up as they go along to fit the story they are telling.

I can see where the OP is coming from. I played EZ Match Fantasy 5 for $ 2 and I filled in 2,4,6,8,10 on a play slip . I was thrilled when 6 matched $500! I was just about to turn it in to collect my $500 when I noticed something horribly wrong. For sone reason, the idiot clerk put Quick Pick and the Quick Pick matched NOTHING. I told her off for costing me $500. She looked like she didn't really give a snip and casually told me there was nothing she could do about it. . Disgusting! :(

That literally had me laughing out loud what you said. When the megamillions ticket was printed the clerk was holding it in her hand facing her, concealing the front of it from me. I didn't think anything was off so I asked for the powerball also.

Occam's Razor says the numbers don't make sense. The clerk is at the machine printing a playslip with ten numbers in a row. Even at a glance, the purchaser knows that wasn't what he asked for. But then he tells the clerk he wants the same thing for Powerball.

I am looking at both MM, and PB play slips right now. Both say you can play 2,3,4,5,10,15 drawings. It says Number Of Draws on the slips.

Don't worry about what the person behind you on line thinks. Every one thinks their numbers are the best anyways. Nobody else is going to care what your numbers are or what you spent. The guy behind you might of spent $150 on tickets, you don't know.

In this state, I don't know if it's the same everywhere, a play is one set or one line of numbers. ie: 5 white ball numbers and powerball or megaball number. A draw is a drawing when 5 white balls and a one megaball or one powerball is drawn from the machine on live TV.

So I wanted one play for ten consecutive draws. I received 10 plays for one draw on each of the tickets.

I think that my perspective was that if she wasn't completely certain of what ten consecutive draws meant, she would have asked for clarification. I don't know what their lotto terminal screen looks like. So I was waiting for her to ask for clarification if she didn't understand ten consecutive draws , and since she didn't say anything I figured that she found it on the screen and printed it properly. That was just my state of mind at the time.

When I was handed the tickets the state lotto for $1 was put on top. I just took the tickets, folded them and put them in my pocket. Right before I received the tickets another customer came up behind and personally I don't like it when other customers are behind me because I don't want them hearing/knowing my business and I don't like holding up the line for something the store makes 1% of 5% commission on. So I just wanted to get out of there with my tickets.

Lottery Clerks Are Not Mind Readers. You've Got to Tell Them What You Want: It's not enough to just tell them, you must ensure that they get what you have in mind from your Play Request. Misunderstanding can be avoided by using a Play Slip to make Your Request.

I am going to give you some free advice, because if you are going to play lottery, you are going to have LOTS of aggravation from MANY places.

NEVER EVER mark your playcards where people scratch their junk. NEVER put your play cards on the counter without making sure it is pristine! Put at least two cards under your card that you are filling out to give you some buffer from the counter flotsam.

When you said you wanted a ticket with 10 consecutive draws she took it you wanted a ticket with 10 consecutive numbers. And that's what she printed.

The wording 10 consecutive draws might very well confuse people who do not sell a oodles of lottery tickets. And it would have been clearer to say you wanted a ticket for 10 consecutive drawINGS (or a multiple draw ticket).

If I am understanding this correctly, you said you wanted a lottery ticket for 10 consecutive drawings. That is what you got right? If I was a lottery clerk (I never have been) it sounds to me like you want the same numbers for 10 drawings. Lots of people play the same numbers for months or years for whatever reason. Just a suggestion because I've been there and done that.

If you're going to use a play slip worth more than $5, give it to the clerk because from experience some times the vending machine has a reader error. No problem if the clerk can fix the machine, but not in every store.

You both made errors during the transaction.

I believe it's called Murphy's lottery law or should be. Most regular lottery players have lots of stories about how what should be a simple transaction turned into a fiasco. Because of the all sales are final rule. IMO the clerk should have never printed the ticket without being crystal clear on exactly what the player wanted.

After the tickets and money changed hands, Murphy's lottery law when into full effect.

So I picked up some payslips this morning and took a look at them. They do have the option for quickpick and multiple draws on there. That is news to me because I had always thought they were only for picking your own numbers. I think that's the way to go.

I always, always, use a play slip. That way there are no misunderstandings. Easy peasy. Hand the playslip to the clerk, they put it in the machine, out come the tix.

That clerk could not care less if you bought anything else in the store or not. That clerk makes 8 bucks an hour regardless of what you buy.

I think you have one of the most level headed replies that's not rude accusative of me.

It's kind of a strange or awkward system of business, especially when you're talking up to $30 for one ticket.

You go in, tell the clerk what you want, they print it before taking your money, once it's printed it's non-refundable and someone has to pay. I don't think multiple draw purchases are that common that most clerks even know what that is.

Take responsibility for your error - It is up to YOU to make sure you are getting what you are paying for. I NEVER leave without checking my tickets. Clerks are human, and as such, they DO make mistakes, just as you did by not checking your tickets sooner.

I decided to purchase MegaMillions and Powerball tickets from a gas station that's in a small town right off of a two lane highway as a way of supporting them over the busier/bigger retailers in the city.

Most players use play slips when playing multiple drawings and if they don't they usually go to a store where they know the clerks or a store that is experienced in selling lottery ticket.

This is totally on point. Anytime I make any purchase that is more than just the straightforward one PB or one MM QP, I use a bet slip to make sure it is done correctly. And I check the ticket before leaving. Technically the $54 was not wasted because the person got $54 worth of tickets, just not advance plays as they had hoped.

Tough break. Its always risky for a big MM or PB purchase. Really should be illegal to play that many games in advance. Especially if there is no SOP to cancel tickets. There should be a 30 minute window to cancel tickets, except of course on draw nights. With all the sophisticated AI computing, and cameras everywhere, it should not be such a big deal to cancel. I could say what I should have done all day. I should have made it more clear and had her clarify it with me as she was pressing buttons on the machine. I should have brought in an example of a ticket.

No, actually, you are at fault twice. You should have used a bet slip, especially if you're doing multiple draws. Secondly, You should have asked for the first ticket once it was printed. I know a lot of clerks who aren't up to date on how to use some machines. But that being said, It is your responsibility to be sure they understood you. I'm afraid the State Lottery office is going to tell you the same thing.
