Some people think it's only a gift when they win something while others enjoy scratching with a chance to win something. Would they rather have a package of socks

Well, your heart was in the right place. But, sometimes people don't consider that. Only how they happen to feel, instead of your intent.

In a situation like that, the recipient is the one with the problem. You were trying to be nice, they got offended, they have to deal with it, you should just move on and let it go. I know. Easy to say, hard to do. But don't beat yourself up over it. You had a good heart.

First of all, I am sorry that happened to you. Secondly, You didn t do anything wrong it was a nice gesture and I can understand why you were hurt by the reaction. I know I would have been. What was wrong was the way you were treated. That was a pretty crummy way for them to handle it. For whatever reason they were uncomfortable with the gift they could have acted with more grace. Plus I don t understand why the wife emailed you.

Sounds like you gave the tickets to a man and he didn't object--it was the wife who said not to do it again. What does that tell you? You shouldn't feel bad about it--just don't do it again.

The person is over-reacting and needs a lesson in manners. Even if you don't like a gift and will never use it, just say thank you. Unless you knew the person had a gambling addiction, or very strict religious beliefs, you did nothing inappropriate. Lottery tickets are legal and heck, they even advertise scratch-offs as stocking stuffers during Christmas. You don't have anything to feel bad about.

Chalk it up to experience. If they're going to start a family feud over a couple of lottery tickets, I think they need to lighten up, and just let it go. Now if unbeknownst to you, the guy had a serious gambling addiction that's another story. In that case all you can do is say, Hey I didn't know, and apologize. The rest is up to them.

Would have been interesting though, to see how they would have reacted if it had turned out to be a jackpot winner.

Lottery tickets don't make a good gift, unless you know they play. I know some very fundamental folks who are offended it exists...lol.

Live and learn....but don't sweat it....unless it was you're future father in law, then sweat it....

If you bought lottery tickets for a person as a friendship gift who doesn't play the lottery. And they didn't appreciate the gift, would you be insulted, and offended?
