As for strategies, buying an extra ticket or two regardless if it's a quick pick or self pick is a strategy and the odds are exactly the same as a like number of tickets using sophisticated formulas.

using statistics to predict when you are due a lottery win here is an interesting statistic.

A more realistic statistic is when a jackpot is due to be won by somebody and that's usually depends on the volume of play. If 10 million combinations out of a possible 292 million or more combinations are played and even though it does happen, it's very unlikely there will be a jackpot winner.

I certainly am not in the position to doubt that data at the moment.. but it seems to fit the fact that since most people don't decide to play until the jackpots get extremely high.. it would only appear logical, also that since most people choose QPs, that around 70% would display such data... that leave us 30% ers that win the jackpots the rest of the time..

for, it's not that we DON'T win...it's just that we win seemingly least often , bcause we are fewer in numbers..... [ More ]

A little side note. Chuck Strutt said on the Powerball website that about 70% of tickets sold are QP's. And about 70% of PB jackpot winners are QP's. That seems to be a reasonable statistic. (I have gotten your drift that they know your numbers before the draw, but I always considered Chuck a standup person.) BTW, don't bother looking for that statement, it's not there anymore. It was one of several frequently asked questions that is gone now.

I wish I knew what you know if there's technique or whatever you wanna call it. I know my luck for sure, when I feel lucky I start winning those dayst til I stop winning and that's when luck is not longer. Sometimes steering at past numbers from each game helps before picking number by intuition.

I remember last year holidays I started posting set of numbers just by whatever came in my mind like it's already there and sometimes repeats for some reason in the mind like blends with other numbers like 8/0, 1/7, 2/7, 3/8, 4/9/7/2, 0/8, 6/9/0, 5/9/6/0, by noticing the shape of numbers look alike. I agree with you, Rick Hunter. Sure, there are ways to play smarter to increase your expected return, like playing jackpot games only when they've rolled over a lot, playing straight instead of box in Pick 3/4 if the box prizes are rounded down. But the numbers are unpredictable and no point frying your brain trying to find patterns or divining due numbers.

Hey Stat$talker. I've seen you mention probability math on some posts and I'm curious as to how you go about using it to predict patterns ,or in what way you use it, if you can give me an idea. My use of probability is in the comparison between groups of numbers. For example, singles compared to doubles. These comparisons can help me to determine what groups are best to go with and how relatively often they may be expected to come out.

My strategy is that I have commercially available lottery software installed on my laptop, and I use it in combination with wheels. I wheel the numbers I picked with the software.

Over the ten years that I've used it, I've won some second place prizes but never a jackpot. I've won many third place prizes with it. I've won countless Free Plays using it.
