A guy won The Lottery and he begun to act VERY depressed so his Family wouldn't know he won The Lottery. LMAO! :D His Relatives, of course went around trying to find out why he was acting so incredibly sad all of a sudden. They hired Private Investigators or something like that, and that's how they found out he won The Lottery! Crazy! :D

You Tube has the story of the Navy Vet and his wife. Their names are Robynn Newton and Wesley. No last name for the husband, Wesley. They eloped to Hawaii soon after winning.

It is a funny and good story with a happy ending.

Robynn had a week long premonition that she would win. She chose quick pick on one ticket and won.

One hilarious quote is about when she phoned her Dad and told him she won. He shouted, You have to stop using drugs

The good news is it's not one size fits all so there is no correct or smart way after winning a large jackpot. And lots of pros and cons on when to validate the ticket.

Anyone that is lottery savvy could write an article with their opinion of what smart winners should do. And others could debate those opinions. Most on LP will say smart winners claim anonymously, but apparently your smart winners talked to the author of the article especially considering they knew the smart winners moved to a gated community.

Now the opinion of an actual large jackpot winner like Bunky Bartlett has much more merit than someone that never won a jackpot.

When she won she told the Illinois lottery As a pharmacist if word gets out that I won a jackpot and can't claim in a disguise (this was before Illinois allowed anonymous) I'll get sued for malpractice.

The Smart Lottery Couple I was talking about in my OP DIDN'T go on any Reality TV shows. The article was about how to be smart with ypur Lottery Winnings and pointed out that they did the smart things , especially when they moved to a Gated Community because complete Strangers came to their old house begging them for money. The article was pointing out they did the right things.

The Acostas are also a smart Lottery Couple who moved out the day BEFORE claiming the winnings publicly. They then claimed the winnings publicly the next day and then disappeared into the wind and their whereabouts are undisclosed to this day to the general public. :) Inside Edition did a segment on their old house and pointed out that the house was now abandoned and the general world had no idea where The Acostas fled to. Karen Nathan, I googled, How to be a smart Lottery Winner . The article sent me back to Lottery Post.

LP.com/news/172231 This shows how a Pharmacist disguised herself. She also waited 4 months to claim in Illinois. She first hired an Attorney who than found an Estate Planner and an advisory team.

Being in a gated Community with other wealthy neighbors is bound to be better than being the only wealthy family/person in a normal neighborhood.

Coin Toss, Thank You for your advice. When I look for a home I will use this info. and compare. Gated v. Non-Gated. A good realtor will help me.

I am thinking that if I buy in a blue collar neighborhood I may not fit in with all my money. There have been posts showing how a poor neighbor tries to keep up with a lottery winner and they go bankrupt.

There's been several discussions here on LP about gated communities...........they aren't always the sanctuary people think that they are...........say you win a jackpot and move into one with a few not so nice people.....then you're really trapped.

That thrill of victory the moment when a player learns he or she is a major winner can lead to mistakes.

This couple probably wrote a plan out and followed it. A winner has from 90 days to one year to claim the win. Slow down folks.

Don't flash your cash in public.

A married couple won The Lottery and they did it the right way. They hired CPA and Lawyers and made sure they had their finances in order BEFORE coming Forward on National TV.
