His filmography is imposing. Besides his formidable TV credits he costarred in movies with Brando (the Appaloosa) and Clint Eastwood and Robert Duvall (Joe Kidd). Not chopped liver. Strangely I remember him best for a Gunsmoke extended episode with Jacqueline Scott where he had served years in prison for a robbery without naming his accomplices or where he hid the money. A fine actor. R.I.P.

And co-starred in Enter the Dragon that came out in '73 with Bruce Lee who died at age 33 that same year. Bruce also helped train John.

Just saw him in an old western show at my mom's the other day and couldn't believe it was him. Couldn't believe how old he was in that show since it was fairly old. Then I realized how old I am and it made more sense.

He still looked so healthy at his age.
