Up to 8 weeks is NORMAL out in California for either jackpot payouts. With Covid, who knows- 10 weeks perhaps

Anybody can write a check for any amount, but cashing it could be a huge problem

people may argue that the 4-6 week wait is to verify the ticket wasn't STOLEN, but the verification should ne done within a couple of hours. Seeing if Winner owes child support, IRs Taxes, debts, etc also shpuld be verified within a couple of hours.

Good, you're answering your own question, but you missed property liens and the fact lotteries have to collect money from their agents before they can pay large jackpot winners. Oh and MUSL has to collect from; the other 43 PB and MM states befor... [ More ]

It takes time to collect money from all the MUSL states to pay the jackpot. Your particular state, or my state, or other states don't keep $40 million or more.

I am talking about pre Covid and AFTER Covid of course. I don't get why we just can't just go to Our Lottery Offices with the ticket and have them cut us a check for millions of dollars if say we won the 40 million dollar Powerball minus taxes and fees... Waiting 4-6 weeks to get the check is beyond ridiculous to me. I had a family Member cut me a check within about ONE MINUTE. Lottery Checks in both senses should be done within a couple of hours.
