The gimmick as Stack was explaining is you win $599 plus your dollar back so while you walk away with $600 in your pocket, the $600 cap wasn't met so you don't get the tax form with your prize.

A W2G is the form you get from the IRS at tax time if you had to pay taxes on your winnings.

Google it and it will lead to the IRS site to see it and the instructions for it.

Most retailers can cash up to $600. Anything over that, the retailer will tell you, you will need to fill out a claim form and go the lottery office. Which means taxes will be taken out.

Stack I really don't know what the W-2G is .. I have played in Ky, for very long time when I have won 600 dollars That's what I get.. 600 ..I think in N C they have that,, I don't understand what it is I got 1 today in N C it says cash win 100.00 I sure didn't win anything .. While hitting a Pick-3 straight in KY pays $600, winners don't get a W-2G because the actual winnings are $599; the lottery deducts the $1 cost of the ticket. Had clerks give me the same combo five times on one ticket even after I asked for 5 separate tickets . The Ohio Lottery play slip has a how many times option and I had to chuckle at the look on the clerks faces when the machine kept printing tickets.

In Ky 1 Dollar straight would be 600 dollars .. So it would be best not to play 1 dollar straight with same numbers on the same ticket,, ..taxes will be paid over 600 dollars.. I only play 50 Cent Box, that would be 250... On a double number you get 100 dollars on a box so 5 numbers on same ticket 250 .....I hope I explained that well. But in N C they don't pay has much 40 dollars 50 cent box,, double number 80 dollars... I think all states should pay the same we pay enough into it In Ohio they... [ More ]

I'm in Florida and can't imagine playing the same number straight five times and getting all five on a single slip causing all sorts of problems if I were to win. If I were playing five numbers boxed, even the same number five times boxed it wouldn't rise to the level of a problem were I to win. Next time just ask, if you don't like what you hear try somewhere else or when a different clerk is on duty and not busy. All else fails, sent the lottery an email.

Bob what I'm trying to say,, is like I go buy 123 thru 127 I get 5 slips in N C.. I have played in Ohio, KY, WV. I get 1 pay slip with 5 numbers In N C i get 5 slips Instead of 1

You can pick 5 different numbers on the card you use to play the numbers , or you can pick the same number 5 times on the ticket. And get 1 pay slip

I guess it depends on how lottery savvy your state lottery is. The Ohio Lottery Pick-3 and Pick-4 play slips had a how many times box and when checked gave players as many separate tickets as requested. Lottery terminals have that option too but not every store clerk knows where to find it and how to do it.

The Kentucky Lottery has online play but pick-3 and pick-4 play is not included. Don't know if any lottery with online sales allows wagers on those two games and never found a reason why... [ More ]

Control this yourself by handing the clerk 5 play slips each with a single Str8 Play (Box Payouts are to small to trigger the wait). Or ask him to run the single ticket separately. Here in California the Machine prints the tickets as market on a play slip that allows up to 5 separate combinations, play each separately as a Str8, Box or Str8_Box. You can also extended play options the Entire Ticket.

It must be an individual state or retailer thing. Here in Md. if I was to play say 123 for $1 straight, 5 times on the same play slip, I would get 5 separate tickets.

Do these other states have a separate ticket or an all on one ticket option the player could ask for

I'm thinking most Pick-3 customers prefer to be able to cash their winners at a local store then having to wait to collect a collection of prizes by mail or state office and pay taxes. Depends largely on how you play. The person that plays five different numbers for a dollar each doesn't have the problems a winner with five of the same numbers hitting straight might have. It could be the store owner got tired of people complaining the plays were all on one and wanting it redone.
