There's always a statistician to take all the fun out of a conversation! of course I know the odds! Doesn't mean it's not fun to imagine what I would do if I (somehow by some unimaginable miracle) had the winning numbers. I've seen a few of those stories and I just thought if I had numbers I knew would win, I would buy my friends some secondary prize tickets too. Stocking stuffers

I hope you realize it doesn't work that way. For every person who wins based on numbers they got from a dream (or any other method) there are a bunch of people who didn't win a dime. For PB the overall odds of winning anything are about 1 in 25. That means that for every person who chooses numbers that win some prize there are about 24 who chose numbers that didn't win. And of the people who do win something about 90% win a whopping $4, and almost another 10% win $7. Less than 1 in 200 people wi... [ More ]

How cool would that be! I only thought about it after seeing a video about a lady who dreamed the numbers and hit the jackpot 3 weeks later. I was like she should have bought a bunch of winning tickets. I'd get the jackpot numbers and then maybe buy a few friends second prize winning tickets. That would be a nice gift. Here's a million dollar lotto ticket! Happy birthday

I don't know how every single lottery works, but jackpot games generally have completely separate prize pools for the different levels of prizes. Those prize pools are funded with fixed amounts from every ticket that's sold, and the amounts are related to the probability of winning each prize so that over the long term the amount paid into the pool is fairly close to the amount won. As long as prizes are won on separate tickets (or separate plays on a ticket with multiple plays) the prizes are i... [ More ]

Say I bought a ticket that won the jackpot and I also bought a ticket that had the same numbers but a different mega ball. Does that second prize money come out of the same pot therefore reducing the jackpot anyway? So it would be the same total. Or would that be a full jackpot win plus the extra million on top of that
