It's Idaho. And yes, they have it set so that there is no option. You either buy the powerplay or you don't get a ticket.

I made the trip to Oregon to buy some advance plays on my regular numbers. I saved enough to pay for my gas plus lunch. Well worth it. I still have to buy Lotto America here, but I will not buy any extra quick picks in the state of Idaho.

It is mandatory in his state that you must have powerplay on all tickets bought for powerball Todd did a story on this when they announced it. I would be mad too!-weshar75

How do they force you to add the power play? Is it defaulted to yes on the machine you pick or something?

if it's forced and cannot be changed I would be furious too

As I said, they are different ball sets. You can go to USA Mega and watch the drawing videos. I think you'll notice the difference in ball sets.

And presumably with different machines, rather than putting a different ball set into the same machines that were just used for the regular PB drawing? That sounds a lot like any particular PB drawing and any other particular PB drawing. The Double Play drawing is conducted with a different numbered ball set than the regular Powerball drawings, so Lottery Post treats it as a completely separate game. The statistics and draw histories are kept separate.

Most other websites out there (in fact, all of them that I'm aware of) mix the numbers together. If the numbers were drawn from the same machine using the same ballset, that would be a good idea, but because they're different, it's best to analyze them separately.

I noticed this last PB roll was extremely weak.

There are 3 reasons. One is that they came up short on the previous jackpot estimate, so the $3 million increase in the annuity jackpot was really about $6 million. Another is that the cash: annuity ratio went up, so the cash value increased by more than $3 million. Last night when I got my Powerball quick picks, the cashier didn't even mention anything about the Double Play, and I didn't know about it. So a Powerball would be individually $4.00 each now with the Power Play, Double Play.

That would be $20.00 spent on 5 quick picks, and the jackpot doesn't really increase that much per drawing either. But, the chance is there to win.

Before the drawing the estimated Jackpot for Saturday's drawing was $290 million: there were no winners and the summary of the results indicated no one won the $286,900,000 jackpot; so sales for Saturday's game were less than expected. The Monday jackpot estimate is $293,000,000 before the drawing- a very low rollover expectation- so they apparently don't expect robust sales for this first Monday drawing as they go to three days a week.

Monday nights just got more interesting with the Powerball drawings! I always play the Powerball with the Power Play, to me it's not optional.

I agree, I'd rather just buy another ticket. My state doesn't have double play, but if it did I definitely would not buy it.

Idaho is forcing us to buy the Power Play now, so the minimum for a ticket is $3. That's an extra $12 just for that dang multiplier each month on ONE line. Add in the extra draw every week and that's an extra $20 a month on ONE line. So I dropped 2 of the lines that I used to play every draw and just kept the 2 I've been playing the longest, and I won't be buying any quick picks until the jackpot is at least half a billion.

Wow, Powerball gets even worse. So, with the Power Play and Double Play feature here in Florida, one ticket is $4. And the Double Play $1 extra feature top prize is only $10 Mil for odds of 1 in 292,201,338. Overall odds for any prize is 1 in 24.87 for the base game and the Double Play feature. Not good.

I'm playing two sets of numbers with the new Double Play feature tonight. See how it goes. I won't make Monday a habit though because I play most Wednesday and Saturday draws. Lottery gets expensive with so many games multiple days a week.

I'm going to skip PB for the time being and play MM with the megaplier. I'm trying to keep my cost down to 11 or 12 dollars a week. I play other games besides PB.

Texas has a special, if a player buys a PB ticket $6 or more, they get a free $2 PB QP ticket. We also have Texas Lotto on Mondays now, to coincide with PB. They have a special if a player buys $5 on one ticket they get a free $1 QP ticket.

So here at least, they're trying to drum up excitement to the new Monday draws.... [ More ]

Got super confused seeing Powerball draw date with a Monday on it. Aka played 3 days a week now.

Anyway, taken off guard and want to know what you all think.

Likewise this new doubleplay option looks like a scam [at least for me]. I rather just buy a other ticket for a shot at the jackpot If I want to spend more than 2 bucks per draw.
