There is a big advantage to playing in a pool (group or syndicate). But that advantage is lost when you have to pay a premium for the tickets to a reseller or butler service.

I ran an office pool at a previous job. We bought a mix of Powerball, Louisiana Lotto, and MegaMillions tickets. We never hit the jackpot, but we did hit $100 once. It was fun, but a lot of work.

Sometimes other people would run pools when the jackpot got high, and I'd join those, but never won anything there either.

Still, I keep playing.

I do the pool on The Lotter's TX site (I'm in Texas) when Mega Millions is high enough and definitely when PB is high enough. I like how they have pools where you can buy shares . MM pools there are 50 shares (they buy 20 lines), and PB are 85 shares (They buy 150 lines I believe). I usually buy 6 shares for MM pools when it's high enough (so if/when we win, I get 12% of the jackpot), and 2 shares of PB when it is very high (2.3% of the jackpot). I prefer playing in a group simply because it increases my chances of winning. My plan is to WIN ONE DAY.
