It was a random comment out of a whole bunch of Lottery related comments. Lots of People admit that they have been cheated out of their winnings by shady Lottery Retailers. I don't get why my relaying of the Husband /wife getting ripped off of $240 came off as possible BS.

The doubt comes from how low the amount was. $10. That's extremely low. A $40(Paid as a box win instead of a $250 straight) would have been believable. And the fact that husband didn't go to Lottery Clerk himself and demand his money back, get it, and then report the theft to the Lottery Commission..

In VA, when they scan your ticket, the amount does not show on the screen if the winnings are over a certain amount. Also the husband didn't tell her how much, so if she went in there completely blind, I can see how she got robbed.

We have monitors that show how much tickets pay, but not all stores have them wear they are easy to see. We also have a play again option so I'll tell the clerk to check the tickets and play again . It's amazing how many times a clerk will hand me the new tickets without checking them and say, did you want me to check them? . It happens, but never had a clerk say I won an amount like $10 for a game that doesn't even have a $10 payoff.

There is a YouTube channel that talks about people behaving badly , but there is no video, just someone commentating. And like with this story, there is no way know if it really happened. At best all anyone here knows is A Husband said something like . Maybe the idea is to see how many people will speculate on what may or may not have happened. like you did.

I find it fishy that the Clerk supposedly claimed she only won $10. It would have been very believable if he claimed she won $40 and claimed it was a boxed ticket when it was really a $250 straight. Hmm. The Husband's fault from the beginning was sending someone who he knows doesn't play The Lottery to cash it in for him. He should have just cashed in the ticket himself. Or at least send someone who ACTUALLY plays The Lottery to cash it in for him.

This is pretty bad. I haven't run into any crooked clerks thank goodness. Of course, I always check my own tickets first using the web and now the lottery phone app.

When it comes to tickets of say over $50, I usually go to supermarkets to cash those as the convenience stores tend not to keep large amounts of cash in the register.
