The online school I attend part time is probably the cheapest I had found, my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science will cost me $4,050 total. They don't have many majors (comp sci, business administration and health science). I would probably set up a scholarship for the next 100 students who are from the United states to get a full ride. They already have scholarships for many other countries, but there is nothing in the USA, and they are based in Pasadena, CA.

I wouldn't donate to any of the charities that continually send unsolicited mail to my address, mail addressed to people who do not and perhaps never even lived here. They're wasting way too much money on poorly targeted, ineffective advertising.

I did not want to mention names but you are spot on.

St. Jude spends 30% of their annual funds raised to do marketing. That is totally insane.

They have over 5 Billion in endowment sitting in Wall Street.

I have read many investigative journalist articles on them.

That's why I would hesitate to donate to such.

But to each their own.

I would stick with local charities as well or set up my own foundation.

St. Jude's has a terrible reputation for not sharing scientific research with other institutions and I think they spend as much as half of their budget on advertising.

Standard health/medical insurance of the parents is what is paying for the treatments. Until recently, parents of sick children were sleeping in cars since St. Jude would not help out the parents. Look it up.

If I happen to win the MM, I would prefer a more hands on approach to charity as opposed to dishing out money big name charities.

Research shows that some - not all - of the big name charities are sitting on hundred of millions in endowments. Some charities can exist forever without even raising an extra cent by just living off the earnings from their endowment.

I would also set up an account at a bank where upon my request, the manager would notify people in the community to come in to the bank and pick up a check anonymously.
