I totally agree on the minute advantage that a lottery pool gives in terms of being able to buy more tickets per drawing and spreading the cost.

However, that advantage comes with reduced earnings should you win.

I will just play my $3 and cross my fingers, lol

Yes. The odds are way high.

And lottery in itself is random. Some patterns and trends show up but are short lived.Especially with the larger jackpot games like Powerball and Megamillions.

At times We tend to feel that We are closer to finish line. On those days, not being part of a pool or inability to pay more tickets hits...

I can see that perspective, trying to find better chances of winning. I just don't look at the lottery conceptually like that. I play to have a shot at massive wealth, or if I want to have better chances of winning a smaller prize, then I play a different game. The mathematics of it does not favor one or the other, but a pool does eliminate the possibility of multi-generational wealth.

Also for strategy or wheel players, over the period, the need to play more combinations arises ...

One would be tempted to play 30+ tickets for 60$. Especially If the person prefers to play draw after draw irrespective of jackpot being 40 millions or 2 billions.

Soon one will burn their fingers shedding $$$ game after game.

Playing in a pool has it's own benefits and obviously the pot has to be split.

The group did not win anything but I like their strategy.

The group will wait until the jackpot gets huge again before playing. The strategy is to divide a huge pot rather than a small pot. This way everyone in the group walks away a millionaire. I like that.

Well, that's debatable.

Personally, I don't believe the best way to get into any lottery drawing is with a group. The draw of the lottery, especially a game like Powerball, is winning a massive pile of life-changing cash. Getting into a group with perhaps dozens of others takes away the risk/reward ratio that Powerball offers. Really, if I wanted to have better odds of winning a smaller prize (think less than $5 million), I would play my in-state Cash 5 game. I don't need to worry about the... [ More ]

The lottery group I belong to has started up again for the new year.

I am in for the $810 million Powerball jackpot.

Best way for a Canadian to get in on the big US jackpots. Or for anyone for that matter.
