Yup. If you had to borrow money in order to play you only won because they loaned you the money. I agree. There is a difference between borrowing $10 and bumming $10. Sounds like she is treating them as the same thing. I suppose borrowing turns into bumming when you forget to pay it back.

Never really minded all of the hypotheticals, but the sheer volume of posts about scams, being scammed, stealing tickets, and borrowing money was always a bit sus. Certain Miami-based BINGO players should just keep their noses clean and all will be well.

Remember Tasha insisted in the past that no one needed $ over a certain amount...therefore she was entitled to share it. She was always worried about people stealing her future big win but yet felt entitled to $ of other winners.

The term owe is very telling.

I would also never borrow or lend $ to gamble.

Oh wow, a Karen Nathan hypothetical. I had completely forgotten about these. I would obviously pay back the $10. If I would split the prize depends on who lent me $10. To be honest this is a tough one because out of superstition I would never borrow money to gamble in the first place. It's bad luck. So is picking numbers off the license plate of a hearse. Gotta get your numbers and gambling funds from clean sources.

You could deny it or just say it never happened if you weren't on good terms lately.

??? Not referring to the winner waiting to claim the $ but rather waiting until the claim period expired before deciding to share any money with a friend based on the fact scenario proposed in this thread. If the friend was planning to sue, it likely would happen in 6 months to a year.

Verbal contracts to share a potential lottery win/gambling related are impossible to enforce in most jurisdictions. It is based on indefiniteness, etc. and there really is not an offer and acceptance as in a contract.

Now, if it concerned a married couple, that is different since it would be property acquired during a marriage.

And if you give someone money to purchase lottery tickets on your behalf, that is different as well.

If I told them Give me $10 and I will buy some lottery tickets, if I win we shall split the winnings now that's a different proposal.

Having said that, there is a word used that would sway the argument. The word is FRIEND.

Now if this person is a real true friend, then in the spirit of friendship I would remember them. Maybe with 5M.

However remember that people change, you could give them even 50M and they could sue you demanding more.

You owe them $10 and You owe them none of the winnings aren't mutually exclusive. If you borrow money, you have to pay it back. If you win the lottery, the winnings are yours to spend as you please and you aren't obligated to share them with anyone.

Anyway, what would you do Lotto fanatic? And in the reverse scenario where you lent your friend $10 who happened to win the lottery, would you expect some of the prize

If one has to borrow money to play, one should not play.

Legally, you owe this person just the amount of money you borrowed. Unless it is an emergency, I do not loan money. If someone did borrow money and win the lottery, I just do not have that entitlement or expectation that they owe me any of their winnings.

Interesting question. I always play for the cash value, which would probably be around $500 million, give or take. So, I would give him half. In this scenario, I couldn't play without his help, but if I had not bought the ticket there would not be a jackpot win. So, split the jackpot.

Besides, $250 million for each would take care of both of us for life.
