I jumped down the lottery rabbit hole losing myself 25 years ago and I'm so glad that I did. I'm just emerging now coming full circle with everything I had hoped for. My advice is to go back to the basics each time if you feel lost and to keep doing that.

I never had an issue with lottery spending. Maybe because I only started playing a bit when I joined LP. I always considered another $1 in my 401k and my mortgage was worth a thousand times more than a long shot jp win. I even did without a car the first 4 years after finishing my education since I was saving every dime to put a large down payment on a future home.

The lottery is entertainment only. I worked for my dreams and I just like guessing lottery numbers on occasion.

It's about self control. I sometimes refer to buying a lottery ticket as feeding the monster .

You can't overfeed the monster. I did for several years. But I also kept track of my spending. One year I spent over $2600 on lottery tickets. This is hard, I don't even know how to advise you.

However, am thinking, why do I play?

I play because am chasing a dream.

What type of dream am I chasing?

It's a financial dream, of being financially independent.

What if I redefine my dream and chase a different dream, one which does not involve playing the lottery or what if I change my strategy to achieve the same dream?

Now that would require upfront work and time and sacrifices.

When you find that you have lost yourself or frustrated with the lottery. And I live in Canada. So what I do is I take a break from the lottery. Sometime's for up to a week. Some people may need a longer break than that. And when I feel less uncomfortable with myself and the lottery. I take a chance. And buy 1 or 2 ticket's. And that is all. I want to budget my money.
