If every other state can do it in 14 days I'd start the lawsuit at 14 days and see if they can't suddenly get out of their own way.

it sounds like they have a financial incentive to make it as convoluted and inefficient as possible and no one has held them accountable for it. They say they process 10000 claims a month. If that much money is sitting in their account drawing interest for weeks at a time they're stealing millions in unearned interest the winners are entitled to.... [ More ]

According to the California Lottery website , The current processing time for error-free claims is 4 to 6 weeks.

It also says Federal taxes will be deducted so the final payout will be at least 25% less, but interest clock on $33 million should start running the day after six weeks are up.

The former CA state controller, Betty Yee, was aware of that issue but did nothing. The current one, Malia Cohen, is unaware and does nothing. The state controller's office is pretty useless as far as CA lottery players are concerned. I think the CA lottery will not change its ways until a winner sues for withheld interest on a large prize. Considering that other state lotteries manage to pay winners in a timely manner, the CA lottery does not have much justification for taking so long to pay.... [ More ]

I just read an article about the Orange County man that won the 44 million powerball on aug 19. He said he immediately submitted the claim but after 9 weeks still hasn't received the money.

It seems most states process in about 14 days but California says the fastest is 4 weeks with them. I'm curious if anyone knows do they also pay out the interest during however many weeks it takes to pay??

Because if not they have an incentive to drag their feet if they keep the interest themse... [ More ]
