Data gathering, manipulation and statistical analysis are classic examples of various business problems... Time series forecasting included... I just wouldn't use the lottery as an example... Make it look like financial market analysis, product sales and inventory management...

I agree. Never mention any money related interests in any job interview. Stick to mentioning hobbies involving history, art, painting, etc. For many years in certain jobs, credit checks are done on final applicants as well.

As a business model it's a mooch business selling software to people needing to win money due to not having enough to fill their desires.

It's more of a hobby like someone trying to learn real magic when there are no examples of someone having ever pulled off the real thing.

There are coders who write online casino software, slot machine software, etc. maybe it's like a dark secret they don't discuss in polite society.

There is a general dismissal of lottery based software in the coding communities. I have some slick Python scripts that do data manipulation and statistical analysis that may be a good example of where I am at with coding. Should I put some of these scripts into a coding portfolio or should I stick to the general advice of only including code that solves a business problem
