Tools are designed to explore ideas. I generally enjoy coding tools over actually playing. Whether it is a spreadsheet filled with complex formulas or a python script.

There is also the premise that things are not 100% legit...

However, I always wonder how a tool can be devised for a totally random event.

That's the part that I always struggle with.

That's why all I do is walk to the store and get a quick pick.
