i got fired from my job at the orange juice factory. i couldn't concentrate.

later i got a job at a stationery factory. i had to quit because it just wasn't going anywhere.

there was one job i managed to keep even though i kept getting fired: human cannon ball.

Of course I would provide two week's notice. Why should I screw over my good employer because I won big? It's not their fault.

Besides, I wouldn't have access to large amounts of money within two weeks of winning a large jackpot. Those take time to process.

Some folks are lucky and have the right company and leadership team in place. They get treated well with raises, benefits,vacation time, etc. etc. They perhaps deserve that professional courtesy of the 2 week notice. Do you or will you need them down the road if you have hit BIG as the title suggests ?? I can honestly say with 100% certainty that answer for me would be no . If I did need them, I would be more likely to find someone else so there would be no conflict of interest or possible envy

I would tell them. They were good enough to hire you when you needed a job however long ago. And it's not good to burn your bridges because you never know what the future holds. When I retired after 25 years I told them in Jan I was leaving at the end of the year.

Great call Julie...it is just a job and coworkers do not care. Everyone is replaceable. With $5 Million +( after taxes) one should be able to call it a career, comfortably.

This is an interesting question I think about sometimes. I'm in corporate making pennies. I used to be in a union for 28 years at another company and would have said no, not even for millions, but in this job, in a heartbeat, even for only $200k. Many things I learned in both gigs...

Take time off Your company and coworkers don't care about you It's just a job, there are many like it

It depends on the amount I won. If I won more than $2-5M, I would wait a few months and then give 2-3 weeks, tell them I have a new job.

No need to disclose the name. If i won less than, $2M, I would probably keep working for a year to make sure I can live on

interest dividends from my investments, than give notice.

There is an old wise saying that It's only mountains that don't meet something like that. People are bound to meet.

Sometimes even with all the money, one may need a favor that money can't buy. Thus the admonition to treat all with some civility.

One option for an excuse I considered telling them, if I was giving notice, was that I would be working as a consultant at home, from a previous career. I know I am a number and easily replaceable. Besides, someone else deserves the chance

I love my job and my colleagues are great people.

I would never just leave and not show up, I don't consider it being professional and somehow says a lot about a person - regardless of how your employer treats you.

Where I live one can claim their winning anonymously.

One month after the money hits my bank, I would tell my supervisor that I am considering a career change.

Would give them two months notice at most three, enough time to advertise, interview, hire and have a smooth... [ More ]

I'd give my employer as much notice as they said they wanted, (some employers want an employee to leave immediately due to the possibility of a disgruntled employee doing damage with the confidential knowledge of the employers business they might have) but I'd simply resign by saying I'm going to spend more time with my family . Silence is golden.Got to make sure sick leave and vacation is slowly all used up completely while starting the collection process..Head in on the day after collecting and deposit was assured. Have all company materials in a bag. Go into my directors office and ask This is a right to work state, correct ? Then after he said yes, I would say, My days of playing well with others is over and have Johnny Paychecks song on standby, hit play, do a little jig and dance out the door.

I have a union gig. So if I walked away it would not matter. But if I was working non union or whatever. It would depend on how I was treated. Definitely would not do 2 weeks. Maybe a week at the most.
