The idea is to approach it as a form of entertainment.

When one puts their soul into it, that's when they get affected mentally.

Have a monthly budget and stick to it, don't chase losses it's not an investment

Yes, have lived through years where many jobs were lost where I live. Watched companies leave, destroying families and communities. Would spend the money and time to help more people get employed by investing in people, businesses and communities.

Just because you leave it doesn't mean they would hire someone from outside. The company could post an in house job opening or maybe not hire anyone at all if there are others still in that particular work station.

I work in the corporate world which I don't like so I would definitely leave my job in a heartbeat so the next person can have it. I would also try to remain anonymous if could and wouldn't share with my coworkers that I hit the jackpot. If I was in a serious profession such as a doctor or lawyer I may delay leaving but for a regular 9-5 corporate job I would run out of there and never look back

I work a part time job at a local grocery store. Currently on short term disability. Retired from selling furniture when wife died. Got bored after 6 months of doing nothing. Gotta stay busy. So, if I won big, I would prolly stay on but let my mgr know I'm leaving to give her time to find my replacement. Then I would stay busy on my house, taking trips, etc. She's been very good to me, any time I want time off for whatever reason she doesn't hassle me.

The job opportunity opening for someone else is secondary with my lottery win but it is another consideration to add to the list of reasons to leave shortly thereafter. I also think age/health are a consideration. Are you 30 or 60 ? Being an older worker, definitely you can have a tendency to say, I have had enough, let someone else take over . Being a younger worker 25-45, you may have desire of wanting to be part of a growing career. I can see both considerations.

very much depends on the job and if i could be replaced on short notice. ethically a brain surgeon who wins the lottery should still perform their scheduled surgeries before saying sayonara, even if there's another brain surgeon trying to get a job at that hospital. amazon warehouse worker on the other hand...

in general i don't think lottery winners owe a hypothetical unemployed or underemployed person their job.

Would you feel ajny obligation to leave your job and make room for someone who could really needed the pay you were receiveoing?

Comsider that if you did hit a huge jackpot your coworkers might start treating you a lot differently.
