When I win the lottery, I would not tell anyone for years. Sudden wealth can attract a lot of attention, and privacy becomes a top priority.

I would consult with a tax professional for tax strategies.

At the current jackpot amounts, I will most likely go with the annuity.

Would then create a plan on how I would want to live.

Won't buy a house, prefer to rent and be able to move every two years. Would probably move to Europe at some point.

If I won the lottery I would travel to Italy. My wife and I have always wanted to go there. I would share with my children and relatives and buy a beach house. I also would give to the cancer society in the name of my Father who died from that disease and to Parkinson's research in my Mother's name she died from complications of that disease. If I won the lottery, I would take the lump sum payout. Second, I would setup a property trust, whereby, the funds would be invested in a single blue chip stock, like Microsoft for 30 years(or more) to grow the endowment. That would be used to buy the bank mortgages that's tied to rental properties. Never own the property. Better to own it's mortgage debt portfolio.

First, keeping in mind that around 70% of big lottery winners end up broke or worse off within five years (according to studies and financial advisors), I d probably take the Georgia Byrd route from Last Holiday (2006). I would start a trust first and foremost. Taxes of course, where do you begin? There is so much need in the world. People need electrical bills paid,food bills paid, medical, medicine and taxes paid so they don't lose their homes. to fund missionaries across the world. of course pay off what you owe give the majority away because nothing ever good comes from hanging onto so much wealth. Friends would be those close to retirement giving them an early incentive because hopefully they have some retirement money and wont need as much then single or struggling parents to help relieve the stress of needing help for bills and such. They sponsored my son when he was diagnosed with Leukemia with a fully funded trip to wherever he wanted to go. I'm so grateful for them. I will pay off all my debt and retire. If I were to win a lottery jackpot (really big would be nice) I'd establish a trust for my family and do the obvious things like pay off debts. But I would start a fund to help elderly and older foster children never adopted and aging out of programs. I'd like to buy some land and set up housing for those same groups with true affordable housing (Veterans) included. I want to be able to truly pay it forward generously. Time to manifest the dream.

First I would find a financial adviser on how to distribute some of it to both of our families and close friends.

Then invest enough of it. Which would give us a yearly income to last both our life times and more.

If I won the lottery, I would (1) do a donation to the local food pantry first in my town (I do that now when I win over $500) then (2) make sure my in-laws didn't have to worry about the expense of having someone come in and help them with stuff (cleaning, cooking or laundry), then (3) pay off our home and finally (4) I would buy my hubby a gently used Bass Cat boat (he has a 2004) and spend time traveling with him as he would be an ambassador for the BassMasters in retirement (aka a marshall,...
